| This Brooklyn beauty is located in Prospect Park and was originally operated in Coney Island between 1912 and 1914. Charles Carmel created expressive horses with lifelike expressions. (The lion was carved by William F. Mangels.) Carmel lived near Prospect Park and frequently visited the stables there for inspiration. The carousel came to Prospect Park in 1952. By 1983, it was worn down and closed. In 1987, the Prospect Park Alliance raised money for restoration by seeking adoption fees of $5,000 for each horse. For their contribution, people were able to name a horse and have a plate with their name placed beneath it. The carousel was reopened in 1990. It also has a terrific Wurlitzer band organ. This carousel is a romantic tribute to Prospect Park with many panels showing park scenes from the early 1900s. For more information and photos, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

| The B&B Carousel was created by Mangels and Carmel. The exact date of origin is unknown but it has been here at Coney Island since 1932. Prior to that, it was in Asbury Park, NJ. It has 36 jumpers, 14 standers and 2 chariots. It also has an operating ring machine. The organ needs some repair but is at least functioning. In 2005, this carousel was nearly broken up and auctioned off when the City stepped in and bought it. Plans are in the works for a restoration. No photos were allowed so these websites will have to suffice: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. |
