Cool Interiors

(hit "refresh" to get the most recent version of this page)

What makes an interior "cool"? This is certainly a subjective thing but for the purposes of these pages, I will define "cool" as a place that is a unique fantasy environment. With the exception of Roadside America’s huge miniature diorama, these pages focus on "theme" restaurants and bars. While these places were created with tourists in mind, they also exhibit strong creative compulsions. They pre-date Disney and the franchiser's desire to create a reproducible identity. For the sake of comparision however, I have included a brief section about some modern places as well.

Bernstein's Fish Grotto (San Francisco, CA) [gone]
Bottle Cap Inn (Miami, FL) [gone]
Brookdale Lodge (Brookdale, CA)
Clifton's Brookdale in the Redwoods (Los Angeles, CA)
Clifton's Pacific Seas (Los Angeles, CA) [gone]
Kahiki (Columbus, OH) [gone]
Roadside America (Shartlesville, PA)

Tiki Bars & Restaurants (various)
Theme Restaurants (various)

For more "cool" interiors, it's also worth checking out my Hotels and Eateries pages.
