CATTLE (page 3)
Elsie the Cow
Elsie, MI
Elsie the Cow stands outside the village hall in downtown Elsie which is dairy cattle country. Not to be confused with Borden's Elsie, the town was actually named after the first child born in the town when it was settled back in 1857.

Giant Bull
Denison, IA
Giant Bull
Eau Claire, WI
The Denison Bull is meant to depict Earl Marshall, a champion Angus steer. I don't know if that means they just painted him black to look like Earl or if the mold used for this bull (and others on this page) was modeled after Earl. This statue was originally in Sunset Park but moved here to the Crawford County Fairgrounds in 1982.

The Eau Claire Bull is incorporated into the sign of Heckel's Family Restaurant. He wears a "cheesehead" hat typically worn by Green Bay Packers fans.

Howard & Son Meatpacking
Mercer, PA
Hilltop Steakhouse
Saugus, MA
Sherwood Inn
San Jose, CA
Cromer's Abattoir
Inman, SC
Sabatos Prime Meats
Belford, NJ
The Howard & Son Meatpacking bull could use some sprucing up.

The Hilltop Steakhouse cows are really bulls and they may not be the biggest but they must be the world's largest fiberglass cattle collection. There are about 10 of them grazing in front of the restaurant which is more famous for its giant cactus sign. For more, see their website.

The green Sherwood Inn bull is incorporated into their sign and has been here since at least the 1970s. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [photo thanks Mark Comstock]

Cromer's Abattoir is another example of a steer-stopped sign.

The steer at Sabatos Prime Meats is installed on the roof of their building.

Moe's Diner
Osseo, WI
Golden Nugget Saloon
Onsted, MI
Giant Bull
Chicago Heights, IL
The Moe's Diner bull watches the interstate traffic from his sign-top perch. Moe's Diner also has a Giant Rooster.

The Golden Nugget Saloon features this rooftop bull in a derby and green bandana. This steakhouse is in an area known as the Irish Hills.

This Giant Bull once stood on top of the "La Vaquita Restaurant" which is now gone. The bull now stands in an empty lot.

Mr. Happy Burger West
Logansport, IN
Mr. Happy Burger East
Logansport, IN
Both of these Mr. Happy Burger locations, at opposite ends of town, feature bib-wearing Giant Bull statues. The Mr. Happy Burger Bull East does not have a chef's hat or the tongue. I don't know if he ever did. These statues are about 12 feet tall and were installed in the late 1970s. I wonder if these Mr. Happy Burgers were ever related to the one in Elwood, IN.

Ray's Butcher Shop
Cartersville, GA
Ferme Rodrigue Fournier
Saint-Simon, QC
Ray's Butcher Shop features this approximately life-sized bull.

This Saint-Simon Bull is installed at a farm.

Bonanza Steakhouse
Lincoln, IL
Bob's Roast Beef
Lincoln, IL
There are two giant bulls in Lincoln, IL: at the Bonanza Steakhouse and at Bob's Roast Beef. They are obviously from the same mold as the Golden Nugget and Chicago Heights bulls described above. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Joel's Front Yard Steak House
Verona, NY
Charco Broiler Steak
Dallas, TX
Kelly's Steak and Seafood
Boalsburg, PA
Chef Louie's Steak House
& Lounge
Mitchell, SD
Joel's Front Yard Steak House features this garland-wearing bull statue named "Lucky". Supposedly, a tractor trailer carrying the statue broke down in the parking lot many years ago, paving the way for his acquisition.

Charco Broiler Steak has been here since 1963 and features this bull, nicknamed "Sonny the Steer", on its roof.

There is another rooftop steer at Kelly's Steak and Seafood. The steer was part of the "Boalsburg Steak House" which was here previously. For more, see their website.

I believe Chef Louie's Steak House & Lounge has been here since the 1950s. This bull is probably from the 1960s. They also have a great sign. For more, see this website.

Kelsey's Steak House
Valparaiso, IN
Mercer Livestock Auction
Mercer, PA
Steer
Gilboa, OH
Kelsey's Steak House features "Howie" the 24' tall steer. He was originally located at Howard and Sons Meats in Schererville, IN. In 1995, he was moved to Kelsey's. In 2005, they opened a new location just down the block and brought him along. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, 4.

The Mercer and Gilboa Steers are further examples of the "wooly" type.

Giant Bull
Las Cruces, NM
The Karman Produce Bull is brightly painted and stands on a trailer among the lawn ornaments. For more, see this website.

This Oklahoma City Bull stands on a trailer in front of D.J.'s Megawash. This car wash bull probably once advertised for a steakhouse.

This Amarillo Bull stands in front of the Big Texan Steak Ranch.

This Franklin Bull stands in front of Lucky Lotto at the TN border.

The Adelphi Bull is on the roof of the Golden Bull Restaurant.

The Las Cruces Bull is installed in front of Big Daddy's Flea Market.

abandoned steer
Hot Springs, AR
This abandoned steer stands on a trailer in a parking lot and doesn't seem to have any affiliation with nearby businesses.

Bub Hyder Ranch Steers
Edneyville, NC
The Bub Hyder Ranch Steers lay on their sides near the fence in the pasture when these photos were taken in 2007. By 2009, they were standing up. Bub Hyder has a large collection of Americana on display here, including a couple Muffler Men.
