| Angelo's Steak Pit features a bull that goes by the name of "Big Gus". Angelo's opened in 1958 and this statue has been there since 1970. He was designed to be a Spanish bull but was transformed into a longhorn. The owner of Angelo's was going to put other bulls at two other locations. However, the restaurants were never built and the two bulls remain in storage. For more, see their website. |

I usually don't include non-fiberglass "arty" animals in this section but I'll make exception for these two.
The Woodbury Bull stands in front of Javs Mexican Grill and appears to be a recent construction. Does anyone know more about it? The Smithtown Bull is a 14' tall bronze statue. It was built in 1923 and installed here on a concrete pedestal in 1941. There are several legends surrounding the origin of Smithtown. The most fanciful is that in the 1600s, Richard Smith rode "Whisper", his pet bull, in a deal to stake out property. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

| The Matador and Bull are installed in front of the Casa Molina restaurant. It is believe this is either the second or third version of the statue. The smaller and cruder original was built by Lee Koplin who was working on Magic Carpet Golf nearby. That statue was hit by a car and destroyed. It is believed that this replacement statue is the work of Michael Kautza. This sculpture is officially called "El Toro, the Brave Black Bull". The bull's testicles are painted different colors throughout the year. |

| Emily the Sacred Cow, a bronze statue, was installed at the Peace Abbey in 2005. The statue was created by Lado Goudjabidze. It is a tribute to a cow that escaped a Hopkinton, MA slaughterhouse in 1995 by jumping a fence. When the Peace Abbey heard of her escape, she was brought here to live. She died of cancer in 2003. For more, see this website. |
