I usually don't include non-fiberglass "arty" animals in this section but I'll make exception for these two.
The Woodbury Bull stands in front of Javs Mexican Grill and appears to be a recent construction. Does anyone know more about it? The Smithtown Bull is a 14' tall bronze statue. It was built in 1923 and installed here on a concrete pedestal in 1941. There are several legends surrounding the origin of Smithtown. The most fanciful is that in the 1600s, Richard Smith rode "Whisper", his pet bull, in a deal to stake out property. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

| The Matador and Bull are installed in front of the Casa Molina restaurant. There was originally a smaller bull statue there that was hit by a car and destroyed. The restaurant asked Lee Koplin, who was building Magic Carpet Golf nearby to build a new statue. Koplin is famous for his mini golf figures, including the most famous Goofy Golf in Panama City Beach, FL. The sculpture is officially called "El Toro, the Brave Black Bull". The bull's testicles are painted different colors throughout the year. |
