Giant Otter
Fergus Falls, MN
Buffalo
Luverne, MN
Giant Buffalo
Jamestown, ND

The Giant Otter was built in 1972. It is 40' long and made of concrete-covered metal. Fergus Falls is the seat of Otter Tail County. The creator, Robert Burns, also made the giant mallard in Wheaton, MN. For more, see this website. [photo thanks Mark Comstock]

The Luverne Buffalo is located at Those Blasted Things, a gift shop which opened in 2001. For more, see their website. [photo thanks Mark Comstock]

The Giant Buffalo was built in 1960 of concrete on a steel frame. It is the world's largest buffalo with the dimensions of 26' tall, 26' long, and 14' long. It weighs 60 tons and cost $11,000 to build. It is a monument dedicated to the vast herds of bison that once roamed the prairies. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Giant Buffalo
Hurricane Mills, TN
Giant Buffalo
Huron, SD

This Hurricane Mills Buffalo stands in front of Loretta Lynn's Ranch Kitchen. For more, see their website.

This Huron Buffalo stands on the lot of Prostrollo General Motors. It is 12' tall and 20' long. This fiberglass representation of "Big Medicine" was built by FAST and has been here since around 1987. The first one was installed at their dealership in Madison, SD around 1970 and is still there. For more, see this website.

White Buffalo
Janesville, WI

This White Buffalo represents "Miracle" who was born on this ranch in 1994 and died in 2004. Native Americans believe the white buffalo to be sacred. This sculpture depicts the buffalo and the legend of the White Buffalo Calf Woman. It was created by Harry Whitehorse in 1996. The sculpture was damaged in a storm and restored in 2001. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Buffalo and Cow
Fond du Lac, WI
Moose
Gorham, NH
Moose
Tomahawk, WI

This Buffalo and Cow were previously in Peshtigo, WI. They were moved here around 2006. They are parked, still on their trailers, in a dead end street at a mobile home park. I believe they are owned by Steenberg Homes next door. For more, see this website.

The Gorham Moose is located in front of Moose Meadow Mini Golf. He was produced by R.P. Creations.

The Tomahawk Moose stands in front of the Big Moose Supper Club. He is about 18' tall. [photo thanks Mark Comstock]

Giant Deer, Buffalo & Moose
Wisconsin Deer Park
Wisconsin Dells, WI

These three fiberglass Giant Animals stand in a picnic area. There are also a bear and a cow not shown here. They were all produced by FAST. FAST is responsible for many giant animals, people and things described throughout my website.

Orange Moose
Black River Falls, WI
Orange Moose
Black River Falls, WI
Leaping Deer
Black River Falls, WI

The two Orange Moose and Leaping Deer are located just off I-94. The moose's orange color comes from a local story about a farmer that found a baby moose and fed it carrot baby food and it grew up to be an Orange Moose. The second orange moose shown here stands in front of the "Orange Moose Bar & Grill", part of the Best Western Arrowhead Lodge & Suites.

There's also a Giant Mouse at the same exit.

Leaping Deer
St. Ignace, MI
Leaping Deer
Biddeford, ME
Leaping Deer
Antigo, WI

This Leaping Deer is in front of Deer Ranch, a deer petting zoo and gift shop. The fiberglass deer is 14' tall. For more, see their website.

The Biddeford Deer looks a little smaller than normal. It is fiberglass and appears to have a worn down FAST nameplate on its base. It is on display at D'Allaire's Motel and Cottages which has a small collection of statuary (including a lifesize buggy pulled by two horses and some cast-off mini golf figures). They used to have a Root Beer Man which has moved down the street.

The Antigo Deer is mounted on top of the Refuge Restaurant & Northwoods Bar sign.

Leaping Deer
St. Germain, WI
Leaping Deer
Fifield, WI

The St. Germain Deer is installed in front of the Whitetail Inn. For more, see their website.

The Fifield Deer is located at the Northwoods Supper Club.

Reindeer
Magic Forest
Lake George, NY

These Reindeer stand next to a Giant Santa and Sleigh.

Aluminum Critters & More
Billings, MT

Aluminum Critters & More opened in 2006. They sell statues of Rocky Mountain wildlife, jungle animals, reptiles and farm animals. For more, see their website.

Buffalo, Elk and Castle
Wall, SD

The Buffalo and Elk (or I guess it could be a Bison and a Deer of some sort) stand in front of an America's Best Value Inn. These figures appear pretty old and are different from the other fiberglass examples on this page. I don't know if they have always been at this property (surely another motel was here before) or were moved here from someplace else. The Castle behind the Elk evidently contains pool supplies.

Giraffe & Elephant
Delavan, WI

The Elephant and Giraffe are a tribute to the 26 circuses that made Delavan their winter home in the late 1800s. The Giraffe is 14' tall. The 11' tall Elephant is a memorial to Romeo who killed 25 horses and five of his trainers over the years. The statues were created by FAST and erected in 1986. Delavan is also home to the International Clown Hall of Fame. For more, see this website.

Jim Hipp Nursery
Haubstadt, IN

The Jim Hipp Nursery has an assortment of fiberglass animals including these. There are also an eagle, a ram and a herd of smaller elephants. They are all apparently there to catch motorists' attention on busy Route 41.

La Brea Tar Pits
Los Angeles, CA

From 1913-1915, approximately one million fossilized bones were extricated from the La Brea Tar Pits. Most of these bones are from extinct mammals from the Ice Age. The statues in park next to the museum depict some of these animals. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Hodag
Rhinelander, WI

The Hodag represents a local legend dating back to 1896. Lumberjacks claimed to have discovered and captured this frightening beast. The whole thing proved to be a hoax but Rhinelander adopted the Hodag as its mascot and named a park and sports teams after it. The name comes from a combination of the words "horse" and "dog". This statue is on display next to the Chamber of Commerce Visitor's Center. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.
