Nutzy the Squirrel is installed in front of Perry's Nut House. He is a wood carving and about six feet tall. He has been here since around 1999. At one time, there was an elephant statue here as well.
Henry the Squirrel was originally at the Paul Bunyan Amusement Center. When that park closed in 2003, this statue along with many others were moved to Paul Bunyan Land down the road. For more, see their website. [photo thanks Mark Comstock] This Giant Squirrel is a wood carving. It is about seven feet tall. The squirrel appears to be munching on a cranberry. The statue is located at Arnold Real Estate. However, in 2011, I could not find this one and suspect that it's gone now. [2008 photos thanks Mark Comstock] |

| This Squirrel and Badger were once part of the Badger Country gas station. The Badger was perched on the roof of the convenience store which was disguised as a mound of dirt. The gas station closed in the late 1990s and was replaced with the Northern Exposure Gentleman's Club. The Badger was moved down to the ground and reduced in height. The Squirrel's log was once a drive-in gas pump shelter but its ends are now closed off. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

| These Giant Opossums were created by Steven Fletcher for Possum Auto Body. The mama possum was created in 1981 and installed on the shop's roof. When they moved to a larger building, three babies were created to hang on the tree next to mama. Unfortunately, Possum Auto Body was closed when I was there so I had to take these photos through the window. The statues are brought in at night to protect them from thieves and vandals. They are dressed in Santa hats for the Christmas season and hold flags for the 4th of July. Fletcher has also created other polyurethane foam statues in town including the giant Eagle and the Miner and Burro. For more, see this website. |

This Rhinoceros statue is installed on top of the Safari Lounge sign.
This Hippo statue was created for a miniature golf course. However, the statue was installed here and it has become Hutto's main tourist attraction. A photo-op staircase has been built next to her. Many smaller hippo statues have also been decorated and installed around town. Hutto's fondness for hippos can be traced back to around 1915 when a hippo escaped from a circus train in town. The hippo is also the mascot for Hutto High School. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

| This Hippo statue appears to be holding a camera. The trap door in back suggests that this statue might have been mechanical in some way. It is located in front of Glass Solutions. Does anyone know the history of this statue? |
