| Perry's Fish House South Burlington, VT |
Giant Lobster The Office Hazlet, NJ |
![]() |
![]() |
|
Perry's Fish House is still there but the giant crab is not (see link). "Louie" was inflatable and was put on the roof during the annual crab festival in the late 1980s. In the early 1990s, local officials decided he violated the sign laws.
The Office has an inflatable lobster on its roof. He seems to be seasonal. I first saw him in 2003 but he was gone that winter. He was back in the summer of 2004. He was not there in 2007 but he might have been in storage for the winter. I spotted another lobster elsewhere at another restaurant in NJ, not the same chain, so maybe this is becoming a common and acceptable form of advertising in some places. |

The Tybee Island Crab is installed at the Crab Shack. The restaurant opened in 1987 on the site of a former fishing camp. For more, see their website.
The Crisfield Crab is rather flat but I'll include it anyway. It stands in front of Crisfield High School. The crab is the school's mascot and their teams are known as the Crisfield Crabbers. |

| The Islamorada Lobster, aka Betsey, is the world's largest at 35' long. She is made of fiberglass and stood next to Treasure Village (a retail/restaurant complex). The complex has become a Montessori school and Betsey is now missing. I had heard that she would be moving a few miles south to Papa Joe's Restaurant but evidently that didn't happen. For more, see this website. |
| Giant Lobster Woolwich, ME |
|
![]() |
![]() |
| The Woolwich Lobster is on the property of the Taste of Maine Restaurant. He has been nicknamed "Mainer C. Lobster". Initially, the restaurant owner was not pleased with the creation which turned up in his parking lot one day (seems the artist's trailer had broken down and he left it there). But customers liked it and the owner bought the piece for $2,500. Taste of Maine painted the lobster red and added some buoys and lobster traps. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

This Lafayette Crawfish is mounted atop a billboard in I-10. Sorry for the blur - photo taken while driving.
These Chicago Crawfish are perched on top of signs of at least three of "Las Islas Marias" restaurants. I think they are supposed to represent shrimp but I don't think they have claws like this. For more, see this website. |
