Miljean Hotel

The Miljean Hotel is at 1817 James Ave. and is undergoing renovation.

Albion Hotel

The Albion Hotel, at 1650 James Ave., opened in 1939. The 100 room hotel was designed by Igor Polevitsky who is credited for inventing the Nautical Art Deco style. He is most famous for designing the Hotel Nacional in Havana.

The Albion fell into disrepair over the years and served as the headquarters for Abbie Hoffman and the Students for a Democratic Society during the 1972 Democratic National Convention in Miami. In 1996, Rubell Hotels purchased the building and spent a year and $10 million renovating the Albion (led by avant garde Ecuadorian architect Carlos Zapata). For more info and photos, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Waldorf Towers

The Waldorf Towers, at 860 Ocean Drive, was built in 1937. It was designed by world-renowned architect Albert Anis. In the early 1980s, its tower was deemed unsafe and nearly torn down. Luckily, it was rebuilt in 1985. The interior features an incredible terrazzo floor, a molded ceiling and original lighting fixtures. In 2001, the 40-room hotel underwent a multi-million dollar renovation. At night, blue neon encircles the tower and illuminates the signage. For more info and photos, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Paramount Hotel Liberty Hotel

I don't have information about the Paramount Hotel or Liberty Hotel but they both appear to be from Miami rather than Miami Beach. I don't know whether they are still there. There is a Paramount Hotel near the airport but it is not this one.
