| The Columbia Kress was designed by Sibbert and built in 1935. It remained opened until 1993. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1998, the building was renovated and adapted for reuse. It now houses the Rising High Natural Bread Co. while the upper floors have been converted into apartments. The Kress Building is considered Columbia's best example of Art Deco. The building wraps around behind the corner building - the lower photo shows the other entrance. For more, see this website. |

| The Orlando Kress was built in 1935, designed by Sibbert. This building has an unusual L-shape. The building is now a retail complex entered from the Orange Avenue side (top photos). The Kres Chophouse & Lounge has occupied the Church Street side (bottom photos) of the building since 2003. Before Kres, this space was home to Pebbles Restaurant. For more, see this website. |

The Nashville Kress was built in 1936 and was Nashville's fourth and grandest Kress store. It was designed by Sibbert. It most recently housed a McDonald's but is now vacant and being converted into condos. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
The Fort Worth Kress was also designed by Sibbert in 1936. The ground floor is now occupied by Fox & Hound English Pub. For more, see this website. |

The Birmingham Kress was built in 1937 - right next door to the Burger Phillips department store which had been there since 1933. Business dropped off dramatically in the 1960s and the façade was covered over with metal panels. The store closed in 1978. In the early 1980s, the upper floors were converted to office space. As of 2003, the building is now being restored and converted into office space for a law firm. They promise to keep as much of the 1930s look as possible. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For more, see this website.
The Knoxville Kress was built in 1925 and is faced with white terra cotta. It is now home to J's Mega Mart with no trace of its former glory at the ground level. A little paint to the detail work above could do much to restore what's left. The New Bern Kress is now home to Theo's Restaurant and other tenants. [photo thanks Kathy Passot] This Goldsboro Kress houses Citi Trends, a clothes store. There was a Kress built in Goldsboro in 1909 but it doesn't look like the same building unless it was drastically remodeled by Kress later. [photo thanks Robby Delius] |

| The Blytheville Kress was built in 1938 and functioned as a Kress store until 1974. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was renovated in 1996 and became home to the Blytheville Heritage Museum in 1997. The building is also home to "Main Street Blytheville" which is involved in other local renovation projects including the Greyhound Bus Station. In 2007 when these photos were taken, the building was undergoing further restoration. The interior walls feature original Kress logo details (bottom photo). |

| The Durham Kress was built in 1933 and is one of the largest and most detailed Art Deco buildings in NC. It was built just a few doors from their original 1912 building. In the 1990s, the building was used as a BB&T bank. It is now being converted into condos. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

| There are technically two Meridian Kress buildings, standing side-by-side. The older, larger building opened in 1934. The buildings were last used by the Meridian Boxing Club. The Club was part training space and part rec hall, featuring ping pong, air hockey and pool. But I'm told that was many years ago and nothing has happened with the buildings since. The interior of the larger building has lots of wonderful details left including what looks like the original lunch counter. |
