The Kress Building in Riverside was designed by John Fleming and opened in 1930. The building is now owned by the University of California at Riverside. In 1988, it was converted into the CMP (California Museum of Photography). The Kress logo and many other features have been removed in the process.
The Kress Building in Sacramento was built in 1932 and closed in 1980. It was being restored when these photos were taken in 2008. For more, see this website. |

The Inglewood Kress has been extensively remodeled for retail space.
The Hollywood Kress was designed by Edward F. Sibbert and opened in 1935. The store closed in 1960. Frederick's of Hollywood moved in and restored the building. Frederick's moved out in 2005. The Modesto Kress' ground floor has been altered and subdivided. The main tenant is the Palladium Modesto nightclub which uses all three floors. For more, see this website.
The Stockton Kress was built in 1930. It was probably designed by John G. Fleming. The store became a McCrory's in 1980. In 2006, the building was renovated as the Kress Legal Center. |
