Triangle Diner [closed] Winchester, VA |
The Triangle Diner's main claim to fame is that Patsy Cline worked here before her singing career took off. This O'Mahony diner opened in 1948 in a lot near its current location. It got the name because of the triangular piece of land that it sits on. Although the interior is mostly original, the exterior has been completely covered over with wood. Maybe someone will tell them that wood is "out" and chrome is "in" and they will remove this stuff.
In recent times, the place was known as Sid Veasey's Triangle Diner. It closed and reopened in 2001 as Lynette's Triangle Diner. In 2007, it closed and is now up for sale again. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Streetcar Named Desire Chatham, VA |
Garner's Streetcar Diner Chatham, VA |
I'll bend the rules a little to include these two diners. They are not "true" diners (pre-fabricated units) but rather converted street cars. The Streetcar Named Desire started out as a streetcar in Reidsville, NC. It was brought here and converted to a diner in 1937. It operated as Bill's Diner through the 1970s and then was sold and renamed in the 1980s. This diner has been vacant for many years.
Garner's Streetcar Diner was built in 1923 and served as a streetcar in Danville, VA until 1938. In 1939, it was brought here and converted into a diner. It operated as Burnett's Diner until the 1960s. More recently, it has been known as Garner's Streetcar Diner. However, as of 2007, it doesn't appear to be in use. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
