Grand Canyon Caverns Peach Springs, AZ |

Grand Canyon Caverns was discovered in 1927. It went by the name of "Yampai Caverns" and later "Coconino Caverns". In 1957, it became "Dinosaur Caverns" and "Grand Canyon Caverns" in 1962. The 12' fiberglass T-Rex near the entrance was installed in the late 1950s or early 1960s. Inside the building, there is also a 15' tall statue of a giant ground sloth. "Gertie" was built to commemorate the skeletal remains found inside the cave. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

This Brontosaurus Sign is from the 1960s and was restored in 2005. He is on Route 66 not far from the Grand Canyon Caverns dinosaur shown above.

These four Petrified Forest Dinosaurs stand next to a museum/souvenir stand at South Entrance of the Park. Cute style typical of 1950s/1960s.

The Rainbow Rock Shop sells petrified wood and other souvenir items. These dinosaurs were all handmade by the store's owner, Adam Luna who owned the store from 1987-1995. They are made of steel and concrete.

The Petrified Rock Garden is another souvenir stand with two primitive-style dinosaurs. They look to be oldies from the 1950s/1960s. [third photo thanks Glenda Campbell]

Stewart's Petrified Wood features hokey dinosaurs with mannequins in their mouths. Goofy enough to be 1950s/1960s. Stewart's also has an ostrich farm. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

International Dinosaur Park and Museum of the Americas NE of Holbrook, AZ |

The International Dinosaur Park and Museum of the Americas was built in 1999 and features a six-mile long drive through a 6,500-acre park. There are about 14 dinosaurs on display there now with plans to add over 20 more. Several of the statues are within view of Interstate 40. In 2004, a T-Rex statue was added to the gift shop interior.

These two dinosaurs and the dinosaur hatchlings are in front of and behind a McDonald's. This McDonald's, which was constructed when the movie "Jurassic Park" came out, has a dinosaur theme inside as well. The dinosaur on the corner is dressed in bunny ears for Easter and a white sheet for Halloween. For more, see this website.
