Dinosaur St. Clair, MO |
This St. Clair Dinosaur stands at a Sinclair station and is obviously from the same mold as the Moscow, Elwood, and Green Bay dinosaurs shown below. It seems these detailed, fiberglass dinosaurs were early versions of the once ubiquitous Sinclair gas station dinos. Some claim that they were part of the Chicago's 1933 Century of Progress Exposition but I have my doubts that these guys are that old. This St. Clair Dinosaur is chained to an underground concrete block to keep him from blowing away. He blew down the hill once and lost a couple feet of his tail. Dinosaur Moscow, IA [now in Oklahoma City, OK] |
This Moscow Dinosaur stood next to the Cove Restaurant since at least the 1970s. He came from a Sinclair gas station that was just across the highway. In 2008, he was sold to Loch Ness Pools in Oklahoma City, OK where he will be put on display. For more, see their website.

Dinosaur Elwood, IL |
The Elwood Dinosaur is about 7' tall and stands in a backyard. He is at least as old as 1963 (a photo confirms this). The owner and I are eager for any information and theories about his origin.

Sinclair Dinosaur Green Bay, WI |
This Green Bay Dinosaur stands in front of the "Dino Stop" Shell gas station and wears a painted yellow vest. There was originally a Sinclair station here. When Shell moved in, the owner wanted to remove the dinosaur but he kept it due to public outcry.

G&D Tire and Alignment Wilmington, IL |
Campo's Detailing Milford, MA |
G&D Tire and Alignment features a rooftop Sinclair dinosaur. This building was originally a Sinclair station from 1963. At some point, the station's dinosaur disappeared. When G&D Tire took over the building in 2001, the owner bought this replacement statue that had been previously in Chattanooga, TN.
The Milford Sinclair dinosaur at Campo's Detailing is installed on the roof. I don't know how long he has been there or when he received this custom paint job.

Conroy's Garage Scarborough, ME |
Conroy's Garage has a Sinclair dinosaur on their roof and has incorporated him into their logo. Conroy's Oil Service (they specialize in home heating oil) has been around since 1942 and this was previously a Sinclair station (now a Gulf). The dinosaur is from the early 1960s. When the station became a Gulf, he was removed. Customers missed him - so in 1988, he was put on the roof. For more, see their website.

Sinclair station dino Colorado Springs, CO |
Sinclair station dino Manitou Springs, CO |
Sinclair gas stations and their dinos are relatively common in Colorado. The Golden dino has been at this station since the late 1980s - before that he was at another Sinclair in town.
The Colorado Springs dino has probably been here since the 1960s and is chained in place. I saw another Sinclair dino in western Denver while I was there, too.
The Manitou Springs dino keeps an eye on passing traffic. [photo thanks Tim Ross]

Sinclair station dino St. Louis, MO |
Sinclair station dino [gone] Kansas City, MO |
Although there are countless Sinclair stations in Missouri, I have only seen a few with dinosaurs.
The St. Louis dino is at a Sinclair station.
The Kansas City Sinclair dinosaur disappeared in 2008 about six months after the station closed. It is believed that this statue was stolen.

Sinclair station dino Ada, OK |
Sinclair station dino Pauls Valley, OK |
Sinclair station dino Wisconsin Dells, WI |
The Ada dino and the Dells dino are located at Sinclair stations.
The Pauls Valley dino stands in one of this Sinclair station's service bays.

Imagination Station Dinosaur Wilson, NC |
Dinosaur South of the Border Dillon, SC |
The Wilson Dinosaur appears to be from a former Sinclair gas station. He now stands in front of the Imagination Station Science Museum.
The South of the Border Dinosaur appears to be a Sinclair copy. He seems to have less detail and I have never seen one with the "spillover" surrounding his feet. I'm not sure how old this guy is. SOB features (and produces) many concrete statues for tourists to pose with. For more about the place, see this page.

Sinclair Dinosaur Mitchell, SD |
Sinclair Dinosaur Storm Lake, IA |
Sinclair Dinosaur St. George, UT |
The Mitchell Dinosaur stands in front of Jack's Sinclair station on the outskirts of town. This dino's feet have been submerged in concrete, presumably to prevent theft or damage from high winds. My dog, Fix, is happy to provide a sense of scale.
The Storm Lake Dinosaur is penned in at Sparky's One Stop which is surrounded by cornfields.
This super shiny St. George Dinosaur is at a Sinclair station.

Sinclair Dinosaur Iowa City, IA |
The Iowa City Dinosaur appears to be for sale along with the gas station. For more, see this website.

Sinclair Dinosaur North Platte, NE |
This Vernal Dinosaur is in a chain link cage at a Sinclair station.
Nebraska must have more Sinclair dinosaurs than any other state. North Platte seems to have Sinclair stations every few blocks and nearly all of them have the dinosaurs on top of their canopies or signs.

Sinclair Dinosaur Duluth, MN |
Sinclair Dinosaur Austin, MN |
Sinclair Dinosaur Belgrade, MN |
The Duluth Dinosaur stands at a long-abandoned gas station.
The Austin Dinosaur is a quick and easy photo-op since it's at the Sinclair station right off I-80. Just a few feet away is a Ronald McDonald on a bench for more photos.
The Belgrade Dinosaur looks content in the flowerbed at this Sinclair station.
