| Bedford Farms was founded in 1880. They started making ice cream in the late 1940s. In 1984, this became their sole business. In 2001, they added a second location in Concord, MA. For more, see their website. |

| Kimball Farm opened its first stand in 1939 with 12 flavors of ice cream. They now have over 40 flavors and three stands: this one, one in Carlise (shown below), and one in Jaffrey, NH. This is the original location and where the ice cream is still produced. There are also bumper boats, a driving range, and a great mini golf course. I have sampled my share of ice cream and this is right up there among the best: creamy, thick and huge portions. For more, see their website. |

This Kimball Farm is a simple stand with great ice cream. For more about them, see the Westford location described above.
Just down the road from Kimball Farm's Carlisle stand is Great Brook Dairy Farm. The farm has been here since the 1930s and is now surrounded by a beautiful state park (Great Brook Farm State Park) with over 20 miles of hiking and biking trails. Just next to the truly homemade (Holstein cows on-site) ice cream stand, there are farm animals (pigs, cows, goats, sheep) to feed and gawk at. For more, see this website. |

In addition to Uhlman's great homemade ice cream, they have picnic benches and grazing cows on a nearby hillside. In the 1890s, Westborough came to be known as Milk Town because of the large number of dairies located there. In the 1930s, there were still 40 dairies operating in town. By 1975, Uhlman's was the only one left. Unfortunately, a barn fire destroyed the dairy in 1996 but their ice cream stand lives on.
Four Seas Ice Cream opened in 1934. It is the oldest ice cream shop on the Cape. The building it occupies was originally a blacksmith shop. The Four Seas also sells other foods in addition to the great homemade ice cream. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

The Handy Hill Creamery opened in 1975. They started as a homemade ice cream stand and added other food (lobster rolls, etc.) over the years. There are three diners in storage at this property.
The Cedar Hill Dairy Joy stand was established in 1927 as part of the Cedar Hill Farm. The dairy farm operated into the early 1940s. A fire destroyed the farm buildings in 1949 but the ice cream stand was spared. In 1961, new owners changed the name to Cedar Hill Dairy Joy. For more, see this website. |

| Erikson's stand opened here in 1937 (the dairy was started in 1909). Great ice cream and there are a couple of nice photos from the late 1930s on display at the stand. The building at the right is just next door and is where the ice cream is produced (and milk bottling took place until 1965). For more, see their website. |

The Broadway Dairy Maid looks like it's been here since the 1950s or 1960s. When I was there in the winter of 2009, the windows were papered over and the sign was covered with an advertisement for shoveling services. Hopefully, this was just for the off-season and this stand will reopen in the spring. [photo thanks DinerFan]
Park Street Ice Cream occupies this cute little building and offers homemade ice cream. [photo at left thanks DinerFan] |
