Weylu's Restaurant (now Jin Asian Cuisine)
Saugus, MA

Weylu's had two other locations (Saugus and Woburn) but all of them are closed now. The restaurants had vast menus with Chinese, Japanese and Thai food. This location is supposedly the largest Chinese restaurant ever built. It was modeled after the Forbidden Palace in Beijing. The Weylu's building is a dramatic sight overlooking Route 1. Weylu's closed in the late 1990s and sat empty for many years with boarded up windows and broken tile, surrounded by an immense parking lot (first photo). Around 2004, after a multi-million dollar renovation, it reopened as East Manor. In 2006, the Jin Asian Cuisine Restaurant (second and third photos) took over the building. For more, see this website.

Cathay Temple
Mattapoisett, MA

The Cathay Temple opened in 1951. It closed in 2000 and rumors were that it would be demolished for a CVS drug store. But new owners kept the restaurant and name intact, adding Thai and Japanese food to the menu, and reopened it in 2003. Just next door is another survivor - the Bowl-Mor (duckpin bowling) from 1946. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

Oriental House
St. Matthews, KY
Hong Kong Restaurant
Pensacola, FL

The Oriental House features a pagoda-influenced building and sign.

The Hong Kong Restaurant survived the 130 mph winds of Hurricane Ivan in 2004 pretty well. The neon tubing is broken but the entrance structure is pretty much intact. Other surrounding businesses were not so lucky.

Lin's Cuisine
New Bedford, MA

Lin's Cuisine was originally known as the York Wong Restaurant. Lin's took over in 2001. The tile-roofed building dates from around the 1950s. For more, see this website. [middle photo thanks DinerFan]

East Wok Asian Gourmet
Glen Cove, NY

The East Wok Asian Gourmet features a nice, old sign and some intact building details. It would be great to see what this place once looked like. [photo thanks DinerFan]

Grand Fortuna
San Antonio, TX

The Grand Fortuna Chinese restaurant looks like an oldie. I imagine the building and sign might have been accented with neon and the torches were probably lit.

Woo's Pagoda Restaurant
Eau Claire, WI
China Town Food Stand
St. Paul, MN

Woo's Pagoda Restaurant opened in the 1950s. The pagoda and entrance are outlined in neon. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

The China Town Food Stand is located at the Minnesota State Fair.
