RHODE ISLAND

Flo's Clam Shack
Portsmouth, RI
Haven Bros. Diner
Providence, RI

Flo's Clam Shack has been here since 1936. Their building was destroyed by hurricanes in 1938 and 1991. They now have a second location in Middletown, RI. For more, see this website.

The Haven Brothers Diner is not a "true" diner but more of an overgrown lunch truck. This local institution dates back to 1893 when Anne P. Haven set up a horse-drawn lunch wagon downtown. The business has had several different owners over the years. The truck used today is from 1949. The interior has room for only four stools. This photo was taken during the day where it is stored. At night, the truck moves downtown where it is open from 4:30pm-5am. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

Del's
Warwick, RI
Del's
Newport, RI
Del's specializes in frozen lemonade. The family business goes back to great grandfather DeLucia who made the earliest lemonade in 1840 in Naples, Italy. The family's first stand opened in 1948 in Cranston, RI. They now have 45 locations with the majority in RI. Outside of RI, their locations are in in MA, MD, CA, OH, IL, GA, PA, NH, VA, and HI; with 13 stands in Japan and three in Taiwan. The Warwick building looks just like the ones in Cumberland, RI and East Providence, RI.

They have added seven other flavors (strawberry, cherry, grape, mocha, watermelon, blueberry and kiwi) and most recently a hard lemonade (containing alcohol). They also sell burgers, donuts and other food items at their restaurants. For more, see their website.
