Stewarts Original Hot Dogs
Huntington, WV
Stewarts Original Hot Dogs opened in 1932, selling just root beer and popcorn. The stand added hot dogs and chili in 1933. This is the original building. The root beer is homemade and there are male car hops. There are now three others locations: another one in Huntington, one in Ashland and one in Kenova.

These stands are not related to the Stewart's Root Beer chain described below although that company lists these locations on their website. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

A third stand in Hurricane, WV opened in 1990. Sometime in the 1990s, these stands left the Stewart's Original Hot Dogs chain and were renamed Farley's Famous Hot Dogs. Farley's root beer is homemade. For more, see this website.

Stewart's Root Beer, no relation to the stands above, has about 25 locations. 21 of them are in New Jersey with four others in Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. The company plans to expand to Florida. The first Stewart's drive-in was built in 1924 in Mansfield, OH. That location featured car hops and served only root beer and popcorn. In 1989, Stewart's began bottling its root beer. Today, there are over a dozen flavors distributed nationwide. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
