STEWART'S ROOT BEER

Stewarts Original Hot Dogs
Huntington, WV

Stewarts Original Hot Dogs opened in 1932, selling just root beer and popcorn. It added hot dogs and chili in 1933. This stand was never a Stewart's Root Beer (described below). Stewarts Original claims to just coincidentally have the same color scheme and a similar name. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Stewart's Root Beer has more than 60 locations (38 of them in NJ, the others in MD, KY, OH, WV, and PA). They are planning on expanding to FL. Their first drive-in was built in 1924 in Mansfield, OH. That location featured car hops and served only root beer and popcorn. In 1989, Stewart's began bottling its root beer. Today, there are over a dozen flavors in distribution nationwide. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.
