Wright's Dairy-Rite Drive-in
Staunton, VA
Wright's Dairy-Rite Drive-in began as a custard stand in 1952. The restaurant added car hops in 1954 and still has them. The original "Servus-Fone" speakers for placing orders are still in place. For more, see this website.

Doumar's Cones & BBQ
Norfolk, VA
Doumar's Cones & BBQ first opened in 1907 at the Ocean View Amusement Park. That building was destroyed by a hurricane in 1933 and they reopened here in 1934. Today's building and canopy designs reflect a 1954 renovation.

Doumar's claims to have invented the waffle ice cream cone (Abe Doumar sold them at the St. Louis Fair in 1904). They still use the cone-making machine and offer carhop service. Doumar's once had a Detroit location and another in Fort Lauderdale, FL from 1950-1962. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
