Wally's House of Embers
Wisconsin Dells, WI
Wally's House of Embers opened here in 1959. The name derives from the fact that when the restaurant first opened, they cooked with charcoal. The House of Embers is famous for its steak, ribs and award-winning chefs. In 1976, this building replaced the former one. Several additions have been made since then. The pole sign is animated with a flickering flame. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

HobNob Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge
Racine, WI
The HobNob Restaurant and Cocktail Lounge opened downtown in the 1930s as Higgins Hobnob. This building was constructed south of town from 1952-1954. The Higgins name was probably dropped and removed from the top of the sign in 1990 when the restaurant changed ownership. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

Kewpee Lunch
Racine, WI
The Kewpee hamburger chain was founded in Flint, MI in 1923 as the Kewpee Hotel Hamburgs. This location opened in the 1920s but building itself was replaced in 1997, imitating its previous structure from 1939. The Kewpee Lunch features horse-shoe shaped counters. There are also vintage Kewpee items and photos on display. There are four other locations left: one in Lansing, MI and three in Lima, OH including this one. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

Al's Hamburger Shop
Green Bay, WI
Olympic Family Restaurant
Lake Geneva, WI
Al's Hamburger Shop has been here since 1934. The sign has either been recently restored or is a replacement.

The Olympic Family Restaurant looks like it's from the 1950s. For more, see this website.

Wilson's Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor
Ephraim, WI
Chalet of Fox Lake
Fox Lake, WI
Wilson's Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlor opened in 1906. The building has been expanded a few times. For more, see this website.

I believe the Chalet of Fox Lake restaurant opened in the 1950s or 1960s.

Dalles Char House
St. Croix Falls, WI
The Dalles Char House has been here since at least 1974 when it was known as the Dalles House.

Cinder's Charcoal Grill
Oshkosh, WI
Cinder's Charcoal Grill is a chain that started in Appleton, WI. This building does not look like their others. I'm told that this was originally a Mars restaurant. For more, see their website.

Daddy Maxwell's Diner
Williams Bay, WI
Daddy Maxwell's Diner opened in 1987. The restaurant is also referred to as Daddy Maxwell's Antarctic Circle Diner. Perhaps this place was known simply as the Antarctic Circle Diner originally? Daddy Maxwell's Diner's advertising features an igloo with penguins. The dome-shaped building might have had a more igloo-like look originally. Does anyone know more about this place? For more, see their website.
