Fix looks like a runty Pit Bull or Boxer but probably is a mix of Boston Terrier and another Mixed Breed. She may be part Whippet, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Border Terrier, or Pug. She is about eight years old, weighs roughly 20 pounds, and stands 15" at the withers. She was a stray puppy and found sleeping in a flowerpot. She was adopted by my neighbor who named her "Brindie" (for her brindle coloring).

I fell in love with this dog the first time I met her. She has a boisterous personality, lots of energy and is unbelievably cute. Plus, she looked well-suited for agility. She has natural, bulging muscles and can run like the wind. She can effortlessly jump onto a 4' tall filing cabinet and land like a cat if there are Oreo cookies on top.

Fix's previous owner has severe arthritis and uses a walker. She had a hard time holding onto the dog's leash because of the condition of her hands. This is especially dangerous living in New York City. Sure enough, one day the dog saw a friend of hers across the street and bolted. The leash wrapped around the wheel of the car and dragged her but luckily there were no broken bones. Just major abrasions to the skin which have left permanent scars to her left side.

At this point, everyone in the neighborhood begged her to give up the dog but she loved the dog too much to part with her. I worked out a time-share arrangement so that the dog could get exercise. She had been living in a studio apartment and barely got the chance to stretch her legs until I hooked up with her. I began taking her to the Park in the mornings and started training Fix (my nickname for her, short for Fixer-Upper) for agility. She accompanied me and my other dogs on weekends to agility trials, seminars, hikes, etc.

After five months of going back and forth between our homes, I managed to persuade the woman that Fix would be better off living permanently with me. At this point, the woman would still let the dog's leash drag on the ground and it was only a matter of time until Fix was hit by a car again.

Fix adapted quickly to her new lifestyle. She really likes living with my other dogs and our active lifestyle and traveling. She competed in agility and did fairly well. But even after several years, she still found competition stressful. I decided to retire her and let her be the artistic type that she is.

Fixie's favorite things to do are chasing squirrels and rolling in / eating disgusting things. She is also very sensitive to hot and cold weather since she has hardly any coat. She hates the rain and is terrified of thunder. She is fascinated with airplanes and will continuously watch them whenever they are within sight. But most of all, she loves people. She treats every stranger like a long-lost friend.
