ARKANSAS: CANOPIES

former Magnolia station
Fayetteville, AR
former station
Brinkley, AR

This former Fayetteville station is another corner lot building. It was built in 1925 and was originally a Magnolia Company filling station. It recently housed the Magnolia Company Beauty Shop. But in 2006, the building was vacant. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This former Brinkley station is from the 1920s or 1930s and is now home to an insurance office.

former Marathon Oil Service Station
Fordyce, AR

The former Marathon Oil Service Station hasn't sold gas since the late 1970s or early 1980s but it still functions as a garage. It was built around 1928 and was also known as the Lion Oil Service Station. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The canopy structure very much resembles a late 1920s Richfield station.

former station
Warren, AR

This former station appears to be a law office now. I'm 99% certain that this was a Sinclair station. I have seen photos from the 1930s of stations that look identical to this one. On all three sides of the canopy would have been the big block lettered SINCLAIR sign.

former station
Mena, AR

This former Mena station, now LP Rosenbaum/Southern Auto Service, looks to be of the same design as the Warren station shown above. It was also probably originally a Sinclair station.

former Magnolia station
Little Rock, AR

This former Magnolia station was built in the 1920s. It operated as a gas station until the 1980s and was then used for storage by the florist across the street. It was restored in 1997 and is now used as a National Park Service Visitors Center. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

canopy station
Swifton, AR

This Swifton station was a Phillips 66 station at one time. It is/was also known as the "Southland Oil Company". It was built around 1925 and is still in business today. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

former station
Prescott, AR

This former station was previously known as Allen Tire Company and Gas Station. It is now home to Faye's Hair Styling. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

former Esso station
Mena, AR

This former Esso station was built in 1928. The office contains automobile and gas station memorabilia and there are also classic cars on display. Sorry about the picture quality -- it was pouring rain when I took these photos.
