Gulf Lighthouse Service Station [gone] Miami Beach, FL |
The Miami Beach Gulf Station was built in 1938 and called itself "the swankiest station in the world". Located next to a yacht harbor, it featured a bar, a tackle shop, a restaurant and hotel rooms and served boats as well as cars. The lighthouse, emblazoned with the word "Gulf" in 10' high letters, acted as both beacon and radio room. For photos from 1939, see these websites:

This former Gulf Station was built in 1941. It now houses Oster Tire. When this photo was taken in 2009, the building housed El Mago de Ponce, an auto repair place. Previously, it was Jasah Tires and, before that, Argentina Gas. There was neon around the cylindrical tower at one time. By 2011, the building had been repainted.

This former station was originally known as the Southland Super Service Station. It was built in 1938. The station was nearly demolished by Gulf Oil in 1981. The City persuaded Gulf to keep the building and a third bay, of similar design, was added at that time. The station remains as operation, now as a Marathon station. For more, see this website.
