George Preston's Filling Station
Belle Plaine, IA
George Preston's Filling Station was built in 1917. The building was moved here in the early 1920s. It was a Standard Oil station originally and later became a Phillips 66. The station closed in 1989. The gas station memorabilia make this a popular stop on the Lincoln Highway. Preston began collecting the signs and other items when he started working at the station at the age of thirteen. He died in 1993 and his son maintains the building now.

These former stations are next door to each other. The one on the left is now "Bladez"; the one on the right is now "Hair Dooz By Tangles" - both hair salons. I'm not sure if these businesses are related.

former Phillips 66 station
Creston, IA
This former Phillips 66 station was built in 1931 and was one of the first Phillips stations in IA. In 1994, the station was restored and painted in the original colors of green and orange. The building was moved about a mile from its original site. It is now used as the Union County Visitor's Information Center. Frank Phillips, the co-founder of the Phillips Petroleum Corporation, began his business career in Creston as a barber.

This former Phillips 66 station now houses LAE Auto Sales.

Davenport, IA
This former Phillips 66 station was completely restored before Crescent Cleaners moved into the building in 2009. It housed a Wow Burger in the 1960s and 1970s.

former Phillips 66 station
Cedar Rapids, IA
This former Phillips 66 station now houses a repair shop. This station probably started out with just the cottage building on the left. The bay on the far right might have been built at the same time or later. The mismatched roof shingles and brickwork between the two buildings does not appear to be original.

former Phillips 66 station
Marengo, IA
This former Phillips 66 station has been used for storage for years. The bay building to the right is obviously a later addition.

Johnny's
Sanborn, IA
Johnny's claims to be a "reborn Phillips 66" from 1932. I believe that this station is a simulation rather than a restoration. The chimney, rooftiles, siding, etc. all appear to be new. Even the "P" on the chimney is slightly different from the original Gothic style letter.
