NEW JERSEY: ICE BOXES & LATER

former station
Little Falls, NJ

The former station is now used as the office for the Schumacher Chevrolet used car lot.

Sagil Service
Passaic, NJ
former Gulf station
Roselle, NJ

Sagil Service, now a repairs-only garage, claims that it was originally a Chevron station that later became a Gulf station. However, I have never seen a Chevron of this design and I believe it was originally a Mobil station.

This former Roselle station was most likely a Gulf station originally. The building seems to be vacant now.

former Kern's Sunoco station
Berlin, NJ
JT&G Service
Wayne, NJ

Kern's Sunoco opened in the 1950s. It no longer sells gas but still serves as a repair shop. On the day I was there in 2003, they were repairing the office's front window which had been broken out by a truck.

JT&G Service no longer sells gas but still offers repairs. The high hat lights are typical 1960s. I suspect this was originally an icebox with the rounded corner and other embellishments added later. It might be a modified Exxon or Shell station.

former Phillips 66
Eatontown, NJ
former Phillips 66 (gone)
Lodi, NJ
former Phillips 66
Denville, NJ

This former Eatontown Phillips 66 is now home to All Tune & Lube.

This Lodi Phillips 66 was being used for truck parking in 2003 when this photo was taken. In 2006, it was demolished and replaced with a Valero gas station.

This former Denville Phillips 66 is now a repair shop.

former Phillips 66 station
Closter, NJ

This Phillips 66 station is now a CITGO.

former station
Springfield, NJ

This former Springfield station features a folded plate roof - a common architectural element in the 1960s but rare in gas stations.

Delta Station
Freehold, NJ

This Delta Station appears to be from the 1960s or so. I don't know if this is the original brand that was sold here. I would assume the pyramid-like elements over the canopy are a representation of Delta's triangle logo. Is anyone familiar with other stations of this design and when they were built?

Gulf station
Atlantic City, NJ

Although most modern gas station design is horribly dull, this flashy and huge Gulf station deserves some respect. It fits right in with the giant and extravagant casinos just across the street.
