Bread Basket Saratoga Springs, NY |
 |
 |
The Bread Basket bakery now inhabits this Pure Oil station which was built in 1933. By the 1960s, it had become a Gulf station and was known as the Old Kiley Gas Station. It later became the Great Bay Clam Co. Faced with demolition, the building was saved in 1976 and moved from its Broadway location to where it stands today. The station was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. In the 1980s, the building was used as a medical supplies store and later as legal and loan office space. The Bread Basket took over the building in 1993 and restored it in 1996. The landscaping and pathway sure accentuate the cottage look of this beauty.

The Lyons station is from the 1920s. It functioned in later years as Jim's Gulf until at least the early 1990s but it is now unoccupied. This Pure station even has its original shutters! It was announced in mid-2002 that the building had been donated to the Wayne County Historical Society in Lyons with plans to use it as a tourist info center. However, there is still no sign of any restoration work. For more, see this website.
The Fairport station is in great shape and houses the Slocum-Lauder Insurance Agency. Maybe someday they will repaint it the right colors! The sacrilegious windows in the chimney probably help light up the narrow structure.

This Hudson Pure Oil was built in 1934. It is now home to TJ Auto Service. The building is in great shape despite the altered windows and doors, and untraditional paintjob. The owners, who bought the building in 1978 and did the alterations, only recently became aware of the building's historical significance. They plan to paint the roof and trim the original blue.

This Owego Pure Oil is now vacant. It had been a Texaco station and in 2004 housed "The Cottage" (an art gallery). As of 2005, it aopears to be occupied by the North Avenue Gateway Project.

former Pure Oil Buffalo, NY |

 |
This Buffalo building appears to have been a Pure Oil station with obvious additions. The most recent tenant, a fast-food chicken restaurant, left in the late 1990s. I don't hold out a lot of hope that this one will survive.
