| Dunkle's Gulf was built in 1933 and is adorned with polychrome tile that typified Gulf stations at the time. The busy patterns and angularity used are typical of what's referred to as the Zig Zag Moderne style. I believe this station is still run by the original owner's son. This was Gulf's showplace between Pittsburgh and Philadelphia on the Lincoln Highway. "Gulflex" translates from Gulf-ese to mean lubrication. There was another station just like this one in Neptune, NJ. |
