former Sinclair station
Snyder, TX

This former Sinclair station was built in 1934 and closed in 1972. The station was saved from demolition in 1995 and restored. It has an unusual triangular-shaped office and a small canopy over the vintage pumps. The office now serves as an ice cream stand.

former Phillips 66 Station
McLean, TX

The McLean Phillips 66 Station was built in 1928 and was restored in 1992. Phillips 66 (named after Route 66) copied the Pure Oil style with its gable roof and central chimney. Phillips painted their stations dark green with orange and blue trim. This station was the first Phillips 66 built in Texas and is a famous Route 66 landmark. The Route 66 Association's McLean chapter owns the station today. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

The former Stratford Phillips 66 Station is another nicely restored example. As of 2006, it appeared to be vacant. For more, see this website.

Petrified Wood Gas Station
Texas Tourist Camp Complex
Decatur, TX

The Petrified Wood Gas Station is part of the Texas Tourist Camp Complex. In 1927, E.F. Boydston bought this site, a former feedlot, and built a gas station and shed. He allowed campfires and overnight stays for travelers. The Texas Lunchroom was built in 1929. By 1931, Boydston added three wooden cabins with garages which were later faced with rock. In 1935, more cabins and garages were added and the lunchroom was renamed the Texas Café and covered with stone to match the other buildings.

The Café closed in the 1960s, when the new highway was built, but was reopened in 1993. It is now known as the Whistle Stop Café. The gas station and cabins closed in 1988 and are now used as office space. The structures are on the National Register of Historic Places and are a Texas Historic Landmark. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Magnolia Petroleum Building
Dallas, TX
former station
El Paso, TX

The Magnolia Petroleum Building was built in 1920. The flatiron-shaped building had offices above and sold gas under the canopy. The building is also referred to as the Triangle Point Building and the KLIF Building. KLIF, a Dallas radio station, used the building for its studios from 1964-1980. There is a similar but larger Magnolia Petroleum Building in Oklahoma City, OK. For more, see this website.

This former El Paso station was probably built as a Conoco station. It is now used as the Esquivel service garage.
