Vulcan is 56' tall and was produced in 1904 for Birmingham's exhibit at the St. Louis World's Fair. His head, shoulders, and torso were made proportionately larger than his lower half so that he would look normal to folks walking directly underneath him. His near nudity was considered vulgar to the citizens of Birmingham when he was moved there so he was intalled on a pedestal and more strategically clothed.
