MAINE: MISC. GIANTS

Fisherman
Brown's Wharf
Boothbay Harbor, ME
The Boothbay Harbor Fisherman is at the parking lot entrance of Brown's Wharf (a restaurant/motel/marina). He was made in 1968 for Brown's for $2,200. He was created by Rod Shutt, the same artist that made Amos. The statue is made of fiberglass, wood and steel. He stands about 24' tall and talked at one time. The statue was rigged with a microphone to an office which allowed him to chat with visitors. Shutt's Amos also had a soundbox. The Fisherman was dressed in a red cape for the Christmas holidays in 2003. I don't know if this tradition continues. Before the Fisherman statue, there was a billboard with fisherman pointing towards the Wharf. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

Fisherman
Eastport, ME
Chinese Chef
York Beach, ME
The 12' tall fiberglass Eastport Fisherman was built in 2001 for the TV mini-series "Murder in Small Town X". It was restored in 2005. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

This Chinese Chef is installed on the roof of Sandy's Purple Palace. I assume there was previously a Chinese restaurant here. For more, see this website.
