TEXAS: MISC. GIANTS

Pilgrim's Pride
Pittsburg, TX
Knight
Austin, TX
Pilgrim's Pride is the country's second-largest poultry producer and employs over 24,000 people. The company was founded in 1946 by Bo Pilgrim. A giant pilgrim's hat, Bo's trademark, was mounted on the roof of Pilgrim's Place, a restaurant in downtown Pittsburg. When the restaurant closed, the hat was put in storage. In 2002, the company installed a 37' tall fiberglass bust of Bo (incorporating the original giant hat) in front of their freezer/distribution plant. The gazebo that supports it also has a bronze statue of Bo Pilgrim reading the Bible with his chicken, Henrietta. For more, see this website.

The Austin Knight, nicknamed Rusty, stands in front of the Saxon Pub. I believe he has been here since 1990 when the club opened. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Devil
Corpus Christi, TX
Popeye
Crystal City, TX
This Devil statue stands in front of a recycling business. He has aluminum cans stuck onto his trident. This guy most likely came from an amusement park ride like the Coney Island Hell Hole. For more, see this website.

The original Crystal City Popeye statue was installed in 1937. That figure stand in City Hall to protect it from vandals. This 6' statue is a replacement created in 2007. Crystal City proclaims itself the "Spinach Capital of the World." For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

There are other Popeye statues in Chester,IL, Orlando, FL, Long Island, NY, Green Bay, WI, Springdale, AR, and Alma, AR.

Stephen F. Austin
Angleton, TX
This 60' tall concrete statue of Stephen F. Austin was created by David Adickes and installed in 2005. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

In 1994, David Adickes also created the 67' tall Sam Houston statue in Huntsville, TX.

David Adickes Studio
Houston, TX
This is where David Adickes creates his giant statues and busts for Presidents Parks (Williamsburg, VA and Lead, SD). There are plans for a third Presidents Park in Pearland, TX. His studio is also known as "Sculpturworx". Adickes' most recent creation, 36' tall statues of the Beatles, are on display here as well. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.
