WISCONSIN: MUFFLER MEN

Larry the Logroller
Wabeno, WI
Oaks Campground
Clinton, WI
Larry the Logroller stands in front of the Wabeno Logging Museum. He has been here since at least the mid-1990s. He held a logger's pick at one time but, in 2007 when these photos were taken, his hands were empty. Wabeno's high school mascot is the Logroller.

Muffler Man
Oshkosh, WI
The Oshkosh Muffler Man has been standing in front of Fasco Appliance Sales & Service since at least 1985. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Cowboy Muffler Man
Spooner, WI
The Spooner Muffler Man was known as "Mel" when he was at Mel's 66 gas station in town. He now stands in front of Bulik's Amusement Center, a go-kart and waterslide park. He's been here since at least the early 1990s. For more, see this website.

Big Chief Go-Kart (now Trojan) [gone]
Wisconsin Dells, WI
The Trojan was originally the Indian type Muffler Man and known as "Big Chief". He stood in front of "Big Chief Karts" and his saluting hand held a go-kart. Around 2004, he was converted into a Trojan when the park expanded and was renamed "Big Chief's Mt. Olympus". In 2005, with more park expansion, the Trojan was moved further inside the park where his upper torso projected from an arch. I don't know what they did with his lower half. His raised hand held the Olympic flame. The park had dropped any reference to Big Chief and is now known as "Mt. Olympus Water and Theme Park". By 2008, his upper torso was gone, too. However, the giant Trojan Horse is still there. For more, see this website.

There was once a non-Indian, bare-chested Muffler Man in the Dells. He stood in front of a Burger Chef restaurant holding a hamburger and sporting a Burger Chef belt buckle.

Viking
Cochrane, WI
This Viking stands in front of the Viking Motel. Originally, he was installed in 1963 at the Kitchen Carpets store. He was one of many Vikings produced for this carpet store chain.

There are other examples of these Vikings in Deerfield, NJ and Memphis, TN.
