WEST VIRGINIA: MUFFLER MEN |
Cherokee Used Car Village Parkersburg, WV |
former Muffler Man Elkins, WV |
The Parkersburg Indian was installed here in the late 1960s/early 1970s. The "Indian Village" used car dealership specialized in muscle cars and Corvettes at the time.
All that remains of the now closed Lumberjack Restaurant's Elkins Man is this pair of shoes. This former Bunyan type was apparently sawed off at the ankles. I have no information about what happened to the rest of him.

The Richwood Muffler Man stands on top of the scoreboard at Richwood High School's football field. The lumberjack is the school's mascot and their colors are black and orange. For more, see this website.

This private collection contains a Beach Guy, a Paul Bunyan Muffler Man, a Big John, a couple Santas, and some other small fiberglass figures. There is also another Bunyan Muffler Man from FL laying on the ground in pieces that will be restored soon. George Farnham started his collection with the Midas Muffler Man from Whittier, CA. In 2005, a Beach Dude from Cincinnati, OH was added. That statue was originally at an amusement park in NY where he held a Pepsi. Soon after, Farnham bought a Big John from Benton, IL. The first Santa shown above was from Dallas, TX. The other one came from ME. For more about the Santas shown above, see this page. There are also statues of Ranger Smith and Cindy Bear from a Jellystone Park in MI. In 2008, Farnham bought a Uniroyal Gal from MS. For more about this collection, see this website.
