| The Miner's Hat was built in the late 1930s as a drive-in rest stop that sold snacks and gas. Kellogg was a major mining center at this time and this structure was built in the shape of a miner's hard hat. A replica of a giant carbide lamp was placed over the entrance and the light it contains still works today. The building is 36' long, 20' wide and 20' tall. In 1963, the construction of I-90 was completed causing a drop in business at the Miner's Hat. It closed a couple years later. In 1971, the building was converted into a real estate office which is still there today. For more, see their website. |
