Windmill
Hutchinson, KS
The Hutchinson Windmill was originally located at the entrance of a bar known as the Dutch Mill. When a new building was constructed next door for the bar, this became a liquor store. In the late 1970s or early 1980s, the windmill was moved a couple miles to where it is now. I'm told that it was still used as a liquor store at that point. Liberty Liquor is located next door but this windmill structure did not appear to be in use when I took these photos in 2010. In 2011, I was told that it now houses a beauty salon.

former Dutch Treat
Madison Heights, MI
Tulipomania European Flower Market
Milwaukee, WI
The Dutch Treat is a former ice cream stand. When these photos were taken in 2005, the building was vacant. It was still empty in 2006 and the blades were gone.

The Tulipomania European Flower Market has occupied this windmill building since around 1999. It was built in the 1920s or 1930s by A.K. Eierman, a Dutch immigrant. I don't know what the building housed originally but, in recent years, it has been used as a real estate office, law office, and a candy shop. The blades spin and the dome revolves with the wind. The back part of the building is used as a residence. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Windmill
Bloomingdale, IN
Faith Dairy
Tacoma, WA
The Windmill
Wenatchee, WA
The Bloomingdale Windmill is located near the former Jungle Park Speedway which operated from 1926 until 1960. This building was constructed in 1926 and was used as a restaurant and Sinclair gas station. The building looks like it has been vacant for many years now. For more, see this website.

The Faith Dairy has a small windmill in front of their retail store. For more, see their website.

The Windmill restaurant was built in 1931. There have been several additions to the building. For more, see this website.

Windmill
Carey, OH
The Carey Windmill has been around since at least the 1940s. It was originally known as the Dutch Mill Truck Stop. The building was used as a restaurant and there were Texaco pumps in front. The building is apparently now used as a residence. For more, see this website.

Dutch Mill
Middle Point, OH
The Dutch Mill was built in the 1920s. It offered gas, food, and lodging. In later years, the windmill building was used as a bar. The building was being restored in 2009 when these photos were taken. For more, see this website.

Windmill
Cedar Grove, WI
The Mill
Lincoln, IL
The Windmill in Cedar Grove was built in 1968 as a tribute to Dutch settlers in the area. It is located in Windmill Park. Although the windmill was never functional, the blades do spin.

The Mill opened in 1929 as the Blue Mill restaurant with a Dutch theme. The building was originally painted blue and the blades on the windmill turned. In 1945, a bar and dance hall were added and the building was painted red. The Mill closed in 1996 and remained vacant until it was nearly demolished in 2006. It is now being restored as a Route 66 attraction. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Old Dutch Mill Tourist Camp
Industry, IL
The Old Dutch Mill Tourist Camp was established in 1927. This is a contemporary reconstruction. This windmill served as a gas and service station office. There was also a restaurant, cabins, and, evidently, a teepee. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Pioneer Motel
Lansing, IL
Dutch Haven
Ronks, PA
The Pioneer Motel features a big windmill over the office.

The Dutch Haven is a bakery/gift shop, most famous for their Pennsylvania Dutch Shoo-Fly pie. The windmill structure was built in 1946 and the blades still turn. Originally, the Dutch Haven was a restaurant. For more, see their website.

Morehead Suzuki
Newburgh, NY
Old Dutch Mill
Smith Center, KS
The windmill at Morehead Suzuki was fully-functioning originally. It is believed to be from the 1800s.

The Old Dutch Mill was built in Reamsville, KS by Charles Schwarz around 1879. It was used to grind corn, wheat and other grain. The blades had sailcloth originally. It was moved here to Wagner Park in Smith Center in 1938. In 1955, the windmill was damaged by a fire and rebuilt.

unidentified business
Greenville, IL
Windmill
James Island, SC
Moulin des Artes
Saint-Fabien, QC
This unidentified business on Route 127 appears to be (or have been) a bar. Quite possibly, it might have been a restaurant or a motel office. My theory, based on the "DM" initials on the windmill, is that it might have been the Dutch Mill.

The James Island Windmill is located at the Plymouth Avenue boat landing. It was donated to the Riverland Terrace Garden Club and moved here around 1998. Does anyone know the history of this structure?

The Moulin des Artes is an art gallery and studio. I assume this was a functional windmill originally.

Dutch Mill Motel
Wisconsin Dells, WI
unidentified business
Texarkana, AR
The Dutch Mill Motel is now used for student housing. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

This unidentified business might have been a souvenir shop known as "Plumley's". I suspect it might have been a restaurant at some point. Does anyone know more about this building?
