There was a development boom in Fort Lauderdale from 1951-1967 and many of the motels/hotels built during this period remain.

This Howard Johnson was built in 1965 and renovated in 2002. For more, see this website.

The Jolly Roger Motel, now the Ramada Inn Sea Club Resort, was built in 1956, designed by Tony Sherman. I believe it changed names in the mid-1980s. The Jolly Roger has nautical features including portholes and a smokestack with cheesehole cutouts. For more, see this website.

Birch Tower
Fort Lauderdale, FL
Birch House was designed by Charles McKirahan and built in 1959. It is seven stories and features a cantilevered canopy and screen block panels.

The Birch Tower is 18 stories tall. It was also designed by McKirahan, built in 1960.

Premiere Hotel

This apartment building next to the Birch Tower features a similar color scheme and full floor louvered windows.

The Premiere Hotel was built in 1960 and renovated in 2000.

Sea Chateau

The Sea Chateau was built in 1959, designed by Charles F. McKirahan. It features glass walls, circlular details on a floating staircase, cheesehole cutouts in the second floor balcony, a cantilevered roof with cutouts, and pink mosaic tile walls.

Manhattan Tower
Fort Lauderdale, FL
The Manhattan Tower, now Manhattan Tower Apartment Hotel, was built in 1952 for General Motors as a corporate retreat. It was designed by Charles McKirahan and features a 50' tall circular tower staircase made of steel pipes. For more, see their website.

Sea Tower
Fort Lauderdale, FL
This apartment building features horizontal band windows and decorative bas-relief panels.

The Sea Tower was designed by Igor Polevitsky and built in 1957. The 11-story condo building was never a hotel as far as I know. It features a boomerang footprint with a half mile of cantilevered balconies overlaid with concrete screen block.

Schubert Resort
Fort Lauderdale, FL
The Schubert Resort was built in 1953, designed by Lester Avery. It features floating staircases and a geometric pool. The Schubert is now a gay resort. For more, see their website.
