Wisconsin Dells has drawn tourists since the 1850s. Commercial development really took off in the 1950s and tourism boomed. Today, the Dells is considered the water theme park capital of the world. Competition for tourist dollars is fierce and some motels/hotels have become mini-waterparks themselves. Poolside statuary and elaborate slides abound all over town.
