The showroom will be demolished in 2008. The new development will include a replica of the Peck building. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

Jim McKay Chevrolet
Fairfax, VA

The OK Used Car signs and lights at Jim McKay Chevrolet are probably from the early 1960s. Chevrolet developed its OK Used Car Warranty in the 1930s. Ford had their own plan called the A-1 Used Car Warranty and Lincoln-Mercury had their Safe Buy, Silver Crest and Gold Crest Warranties. Under the OK Used Car Warranty, dealers inspected, tested and repaired cars prior to sale. The dealer was then responsible for up to 50% of the cost of parts and labor for any repairs during the first 30 days. Over the next two years, the dealer assumed 15% of repair costs.

In the early 1960s, Chevrolet bumped up their contract to include a 5-year, 50,000 mile warranty. During this time, advertising and dealership signage prominently featured Chevrolet's OK seal-of-quality. Jim McKay has a flashier, new car showroom and lot down the road. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.
