Sugar Bowl Restaurant
Des Plaines, IL
Reliable Dinettes
Elmwood Park, IL
Horwath's (gone)
Restaurant
Elmwood Park, IL
The Sugar Bowl opened in 1921. It closed in 2006 but has reopened. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

I have no information yet about Reliable Dinettes.

Horwath's Restaurant opened in 1931 and was demolished in 2004. According to Horwath's management, the sign was from the late 1940s. Does anyone know what's become of the sign?

Laundry World
Berwyn, IL
Rosicky's
National Cleaners
Berwyn, IL
Cermak Plaza
Berwyn, IL

No info yet about Laundry World or Rosicky's.

Cermak Plaza was built in the 1950s -- one of the first shopping centers built in the Chicago area. It is best known for its unusual sculptures (e.g., The Spindle). For info about them, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Garden Cleaners
Evergreen Park, IL
Wolf's Bakery
Evergreen Park, IL
Clean Cars
Melrose Park, IL
Brer Rabbit Motel
Villa Park, IL
Garden Cleaners has a nice drive-in canopy but I'm not sure if it's used anymore.

Wolf's Bakery opened in 1935 (they had another location at one time, too).

I don't have the actual used car business' name with the Clean Cars sign.

The Brer Rabbit Motel features this nearly fully-functioning old neon sign. For more, see this website. [night photo thanks Glenda Campbell]

Rollin' Wheels Motor Hotel
Chicago, IL
trio of stores
Chicago, IL
former Pepsi bottling plant
Quincy, IL
I don't have info yet about Rollin' Wheels.

This trio of stores has nice, untouched façades with three simple signs. The signs are from the mid-1960s but I don't know how old the buildings are. They are a reminder of days past when every Main Street looked this way.

The Pepsi sign/clock is from the early 1960s. It was installed when this former Pepsi bottling plant was built. The sign/clock was refurbished in 2002 and the neon is lit at night. [Photo thanks to David M. Hallow]

Stone Brothers Jewelry
Alton, IL
Luna Café
Mitchell, IL
Lu-Bob's
Family Restaurant
Greenville, IL
2 Acres Motel
Greenville, IL
Stone Brothers Jewelry has a huge cornice-level sign downtown.

The Luna Café opened around 1924. The sign was supposedly going to be restored in 2004 but it still looks faded with broken neon tubing in 2005.

Lu-Bob's Family Restaurant, with this "Fine Food" sign, is just down the street from the 2 Acres Motel. For more, see this website.

Stanley Cour-Tel
Henry's Rabbit Ranch
Staunton, IL
Henry's Rabbit Ranch is a Route 66 landmark with a replica gas station that serves as a Route 66 collectibles/souvenir shop. There are some vintage gas pumps and signs, as well as hundreds of rabbits.

The Stanley Cour-Tel signs were previously in Bridgeton, MO. They were saved from demolition in 2003 and brought here. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

former Panorama Lanes
Belleville, IL
The Panorama Lanes has 32 lanes, a pro shop, and a restaurant. This sign looked 1950s to me but the building with folded-plate roof looks 1960s. The sign was altered in 2007 and now reads "Bel-Air Bowl". For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Hoeffken Cleaners
Belleville, IL
Brite Way Cleaners
Belleville, IL
Harter's Hobby House
Belleville, IL
Hoeffken Cleaners, Brite Way Cleaners, and Harter's Hobby House all have nice old neon signs downtown.
