The El Rancho Motel sign is still lit at night. For more, see this website.
The Thrifty Klean Center has a cute plastic sign. Unfortunately, the neon on the New Stockton Poultry Market sign seems to be broken. For more, see this website. Does anyone know if the neon or the thermometer on the Far East Restaurant sign still works? For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

The Scenic Drive-in opened in 1956. I'm not sure if this sign has been nicely restored or is a new one.
The Rancho Grande Motel sign is lit at night. For more, see this website. The "Motor Lodge" portion of the Modern Motor Lodge sign still works. For more, see this website. |

The Mazon Auto Center sign is probably not lit either.
I don't know if there was ever anything in the hole of the Canby's Air Conditioning & Heating sign. Most likely, it was designed that way. Lyn's Cafe is now known as the El Charrito Restaurant but I guess changing the lettering on this gigantic sign is too much trouble. The two star-like elements are examples of Standard Neon Supply Co.'s Neo-Lectra Jr. signs produced in the 1960s. They would have flashed originally. For examples of Standard Neon's Neo-Lectra signs, see this page. For more, see this website. |

The Paul Bunyan Lodge is now known as the Palm Tree Inn but this sign remains. There was once a wood carving of Paul Bunyan and a fiberglass Babe here as well. For more, see this website.
Although the Friends' Liquor sign looks like it's in great shape, I don't believe it is lit at night. For more, see this website. The Pepe Delgado's double-sided side must have revolved at one point. Their name is on one side and "Mexican Food" is on the other. I believe this sign and restaurant date from 1971. For more, see this website. The Shanghai Low Restaurant sign is still there but the restaurant is gone. This is a very old sign. The El Tecolote Café opened in Moorpark, CA 1946. It moved to Camarillo in 1948 and then to a larger building in 1952. Their sign is lit at night. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

The Hong Kong Inn opened in 1964. Their sign is still lit at night. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
The Hi Let's Eat sign used to advertise for the Hi Restaurant which opened in 1959 and is now gone. The "Let's Eat" portion of the sign was missing/painted over in 2006 but was repainted when the Jalama Beach Cafe moved into the building in 2007. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. The Star Motel features this fun 1950s-looking sign. For more, see this website. The Rice Bowl has been around since the 1940s. The neon signage is from the early 1950s and is still lit at night. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

The Phillips & Sons flying duck sign remains although the business below it is something else now. [photo thanks Mark Comstock]
JJ's at the Beach has a nicely maintained neon sign. They have another similar whale sign on the side of their building with green neon. [night photo thanks Mark Comstock] |

Mo's Smokehouse BBQ is a fairly new place but it has a nice neon sign which is lit at night. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
Brad's Restaurant has been here since the 1950s. It looks like a restored rather than a new sign and it is lit at night. For more, see this website. Hot Shots Billiards inhabits a former movie theatre. I believe the auditorium was converted into the pool hall in the 1990s. Please excuse the streaks in this photo. It was pouring rain at the time. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

The Wagon Wheel Bowl is the lone survivor of Wagon Wheel Junction, a 40-acre Western-themed complex built in the 1940s. The other buildings, including the Wagon Wheel Restaurant & Motel from 1947, have long been closed and will soon be demolished. Most people don't realize that the bowling alley is still open and it will also be razed as the new condo complex is built. The other businesses at Wagon Wheel Junction included the Roller Gardens (a roller skating rink), a shopping center, the Wagon Wheel Steakhouse, the El Ranchito Mexican Restaurant, and the tiki style Trade Winds Restaurant.
The Wagon Wheel Restaurant closed in 2005 and its motel closed in 2006. The City is interested in saving the animated stagecoach sign. However, I don't know if there are any plans for the bowling alley sign. The complex once had a towering, animated wagon wheel sign next to the highway which has been gone for decades. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4. |
