Salzman's Shoe & Boot Repair opened in 1935. The matching blue painted storefront looks to be from the same era as this neon sign. For another shoe sign, see this page.

Freeman's Cleaners is another surviving example of integrated storefront and signage.

Weld County Garage
Greeley, CO

The Weld County Garage opened in 1908 and is the oldest Buick dealer west of the Mississippi. When they moved from downtown around 2003, Weld brought along this great sign. The 12' tall, 60' wide neon sign was made in 1949 for the roof of their former 10th St. location. For more, see their website.

Welcome Arch
Golden, CO

The Quality Liquor Store is located in the heart of downtown and retains this apparently original sign.

Mountain Muffler opened in 1986. This 2-D Muffler Man is a low cost version of its larger, fiberglass Muffler Man cousin.

The Welcome Arch, which spans the main street downtown, was built in 1949. It originally was lit with neon and read "Where the West Remains!". For other examples of welcome arches, see this website.

The Golden Bowl was built in 1955.

El Rancho Restaurant
Golden, CO

El Rancho opened in 1948. The huge log cabin-like restaurant offers views of the Continental Divide. For more, see their website.

Murphy's Tavern
Colorado Springs, CO

Murphy's Tavern looks older than the 1950s-looking sign (maybe 1930s or 1940s?). The interior features a U-shaped bar.

Navajo Hogan Roadhouse
Colorado Springs, CO

The Navajo Hogan Roadhouse, a restaurant/bar/club was built in 1935. Although it closed in 1999, it seems to be open now. The 17' tall sign is a city landmark. The polygonal structure was built to resemble a hogan and has an intact wood log interior.

The La Fon Motel opened in 1939 as the Landis Terris Court. It became the La Fon in 1955. The sign is still lit at night (see this website).

The Ute Trading Post was probably a souvenir stand at one time. The building is now subdivided into the "Karma Exchange Mall" with a Chinese restaurant, massage parlor and jewelers. Fortunately, they have kept the sign.

The Park Row Lodge is another well-preserved motel, built in 1948.

The Alpine Motel was originally built in 1941 as the Walk's Motel. It became the Alpine in 1953 and changed the name on the sign.

The Mel-Haven Lodge opened as the Kentucky Lodge in 1929. It became the Mel-Haven in 1951 and features a still-functioning sign with a sailboat and animated waves. For more, see their website.

The USA Motel looks like another mid-1950s survivor.

The Pueblo Bank & Trust features this towering Space Needle-like sign with revolving disk. They have ten locations - this one is downtown. The sign looks mid-1960s with an updated branch building behind it. For more mid-century banks, see this section.
