I had heard around 2004 that the Holiday Motel was undergoing renovation and that they were getting rid of this old sign. In 2007, I was delighted to see that it is still there are appears to have been cleaned up a little (second photo). For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
I don't have any info about this Jerry's Restaurant sign. Jerry's was a Kentucky chain. In 2007, their sign is a little more faded now (second photo) but still standing. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |

The Star Motel sign has a ring of neon stars surrounding it. I don't know if the sign is still lit at night. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.
The Caveland Motel is another oldie. The name comes from the nearby Mammoth Cave National Park which is Kentucky's biggest tourist attraction. Kentucky Mirror & Plate Glass features a neon sign in the shape of the state of Kentucky. |

Bridges Smith & Co. is a painting supplies company that has been downtown for decades. For more, see this website.
Gray Seal Paint was founded in 1912. This great plastic sign is obviously from much later. For more, see their website. The Show N Tell Showgirls Lounge storefront sign originally advertised for Schuhmann's Click Clinic, a camera store which opened in 1946 and closed in 2001. The early 1950s sign was adapted (lettering changed) to suit the needs of this strip club. The second Schuhmann sign, behind the store on the wall in the parking lot, survives intact. These signs were animated and flashed out the lines of text with the camera's flashbulb. |

The Twig & Leaf Restaurant opened in 1941. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
The Schreck's Baxter Liquors sign depicts a Kentucky colonel. Schreck's original store opened in the 1950s in the Pleasure Ridge Park area and moved here to Baxter Avenue in 1975. I assume this sign is from the earlier store. It appears that Don's Liquors was Larry's Liquors at one time (lettering under the whiskey bottle) unless this sign was brought from someplace else. |
