The Red Hot Diner was a Meridian truckstop institution from the mid-1950s. Although the restaurant was demolished in 1999, this sign still clings to its framework and part of a brick wall. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
This Dixie Gas sign has either been painstakingly restored or it is a nostalgic copy. It stands next to an overpass, on the fringes of downtown in an empty lot. I don't know if there was a gas station there before. Does anyone know what the story is? Jared's Sandwich Shop is a new business. The sign is either vintage in mint condition, with appropriately changed lettering, or it is an extremely faithful copy of an old sign. The Rock House Trading Post is a gun shop and pawnbroker. When they moved recently, they brought along this old sign. For more, see this website. The Bel Air Shopping Center is still in operation and retains this 1950s looking sign. One Hour Martinizing is part the Martinizing dry cleaning chain. This is one of their older signs. There's another example in Milwaukee, WI. For more about the chain, see this page. |

This Supervalu sign simulates the giant fiberglass men used in conjunction with Big John supermarkets. I believe the name of the original grocery store that was here was "Big Star" and this guy might have been called "Big Jim".
The Cinderella store is now vacant. It was part of the Kress Building that has been sitting idle for years. |
