Merry Wink Motel
Reno, NV
Carpeteria
Reno, NV
The Merry Wink Motel opened in 1942. It is used for apartments now, not as a motel.

This Carpeteria opened in 1980. I did not know the statues were produced that late. There are other Carpeteria Genies in Las Vegas, NV, North Hollywood, CA, and at the American Sign Museum in Cincinnati, OH. Does anyone know of any others that still exist? For more, see this website.

The Dunseath Key Company was founded in 1930.

The Thunderbird Motel has been here since at least the early 1960s. For more, see this website.

The 777 Motel has been here since at least the 1960s. The sign was once more colorful (the balls were three different colors and the "motel" portion was blue). For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

The 7/11 Motor Lodge was built around 1960. The sign's cube (die) probably revolved originally.

Heart O' Town Motel [closed]
Reno, NV
Golden West Motor Lodge [closed]
Reno, NV
Vacation Motor Lodge
Reno, NV
The Heart O' Town Motel opened around 1960. It closed in 2009 and the fate of this sign is unknown. For more, see this website.

The Golden West Motor Lodge sign appears to be from the early 1960s. The motel is now closed and will probably be demolished. There's no word yet on what will happen with this sign.

The neon has been removed from the Vacation Motor Lodge sign but at least the boomerang shape has been preserved.

Barnes Radio Service
Reno, NV
Mid-town Motel & Lounge
Reno, NV
Barnes Radio Service opened here since 1941. These photos are from 2008. In 2010, Nightmare Studios Tattoo moved into the building and adapted the sign shown on the left. The neon was removed. I believe the sign on the right was removed. For more, see this website.

The Mid-town Motel & Lounge opened in 1951. The Lounge is now known as Val's Midtown Lounge. The martini glass is partially lit at night. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Ponderosa Lodge
Reno, NV
Down Towner Motor Lodge [gone]
Reno, NV
The Ponderosa Lodge sign features an abstract pine tree. There was probably neon lettering where the plastic box panels are now.

The Down Towner Motor Lodge sign incorporated several abstract shapes and had a classic cheese hole. In 2009, the motel was demolished. The "Down Towner" portion of the sign was saved and is in a private collection. The rest of the sign was destroyed. For more, see this website.

Evergreen Trailer Park
Reno, NV
Hi Ho Motor Lodge
Reno, NV
Alturas Bar & Nightclub
Reno, NV
The combination of neon and painted lettering on the Evergreen Trailer Park sign makes me wonder if this wasn't originally Evergreen Motel.

Hi Ho Motor Lodge sign has a nice patina.

Alturas Bar & Nightclub opened in the 1930s. For more, see their website.

El Tavern Motel
Reno, NV
Tahoe Motel
Reno, NV
Everybody's Inn Motel
Reno, NV
Sandman Motel
Reno, NV
The El Tavern Motel was originally known as the El Tavern Court. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

The Tahoe Motel sign was probably neon originally and may have even gone by another name.

The Everybody's Inn Motel was built around 1930. It may have started out as an auto camp.

The Sandman Motel opened in the 1930s. The car's neon wheels are/were animated. For more, see this website.

Fitzgerald's Casino & Hotel [closed]
Reno, NV
The Nugget
Reno, NV
Fitzgerald's Casino & Hotel opened in 1976 and featured this neon-laden façade. The casino closed in 2008. There has been talk of converting the building into a "boutique hotel" and using it as the World's Tallest Climbing Wall. As of 2011, nothing has happened. I don't know what will become of these signs. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

The Nugget features an excitingly reflective façade and giant gold nugget. Although this is a casino and hotel, it is best known for the Nugget Diner's Awful Awful hamburger. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Chapel of the Bells
Reno, NV
The Chapel of the Bells occupies a residential home which was built in 1940. It became a wedding chapel in 1962. For more, see their website.

Townsite Motel
Reno, NV
El Ray Motel
Reno, NV
Keno Motel
Reno, NV
Sands Inn
Reno, NV
I don't believe the Townsite Motel sign is lit at night.

The El Ray Motel opened in 1948. This sign appears to be from the 1950s or 1960s. This photo is from 2008. By 2010, the plastic panels were broken out. For more, see this website.

The Keno Motel sign and building have hardly changed at all since the 1960s. For more, see this website.

The Sands Hotel Inn used to be the Sands Motor Inn when it opened in 1967. It is now officially the "Sands Regency Hotel & Casino" but this old sign remains. For more, see this website. The sign is quite similar to the one that existed in Las Vegas but I don't believe these two places were related.
