Crowe's Shoes
Mansfield, OH
Reindl
Spring Service
Mansfield, OH
Shag-a-Lee's
Mansfield, OH
Porky's Drive-in
Mansfield, OH
Crowe's Shoes has been here since at least 1939. These Florsheim Shoes signs were mass produced and customized with the business name. The same or similar signs still exist in Aberdeen, SD, Martinez, CA, and Decatur, IL. I'd love to know of any others.

The Reindl Spring Service sign has been reworked a bit but still features the depiction of a spring. An actual spring also hangs from the bottom of the sign. Some of the neon is still lit at night. For more, see this website.

The Shag-a-Lee's bar sign is probably from the 1950s. The name might be a reference to the song "Stagger Lee" which was a hit in 1959. I don't know if this sign is lit at night.

Porky's Drive-in opened here in 1949. The neon appears to be in good shape but I don't know if it still works. For more, see their website.

City News
Mansfield, OH
Park Lanes
Mansfield, OH
Party Supplies
Carlisle, OH
Skyway Drive-in
Medina, OH
The City News newsstand features a refurbished vintage sign.

The Park Lanes features the classic giant pin sign.

This convenience store has a festive Party Supplies rooftop sign. The store did not have an identifiable name.

The Skyway Drive-in chain was founded in 1952 and now has four locations. This one supposedly opened in 2001 although the sign and building look much older. The restaurant features car hops and "cruise-ins".

Walnut Lounge

Star Cleaners
Hamilton, OH
YMCA
Hamilton, OH
Country Club Motel
Hamilton, OH
The Star Cleaners and Country Club Motel signs appear to be from the 1950s. I don't know if either is still lit at night.

There are a few other YMCA signs like this one around the country. They were probably built in the 1950s.

More Hamilton Signs:
Gilmore Bowling
Howell Cleaners

Pohlman's Pharmacy
Goshen, OH
Baker's Motel
Norwich, OH
Admiral Appliances
Middletown, OH
Sports Bowl
Middletown, OH
The Pohlman's Pharmacy sign features an animated, pouring beaker. It is still lit at night. There is a similar sign at Harvard Avenue Drugs in Roseburg, OR. For more, see this website.

The Baker's Motel sign previously had a plastic balls on top. Before that, it had an entirely different look. The Homestead Motel sign in Columbus, OH has a similar design.

These Admiral Appliances signs still hang above a former furniture store.

I believe the Sports Bowl opened in 1955. The building also has a nice-looking entrance.

More Middletown Signs:
Fraternal Order of Eagles

Frigidaire
Shawnee, OH
Frigidaire
Centerburg, OH
The Shawnee Frigidaire sign hangs above an empty storefront.

The Centerburg Frigidaire sign is installed above the Loudermilk Insurance Agency.

Dairy Lane
Phillipsburg, OH
Martin's Freeze
Euclid, OH
Ohio Gas Company
Bryan, OH
The Dairy Lane is officially known as Jake & Em's Dairy Lane. This sign is probably from the 1950s. Clearly, the neon on the cone is broken but the tubing on the text looks in good shape.

Martin's Freeze features a plastic pole sign and a neon rooftop sign.

I don't believe this Ohio Gas Company sign is lit anymore.

Lester's Diner
Bryan, OH
Lester's Diner opened here in 1965. It was one of four locations owned by Lester Bammesberger. Two other signs like this still exist in Phoenix and Fort Lauderdale. The sign in Daytona Beach is gone.

This sign's neon and chasing bulbs still work. The first photo is from 2009. In 2011, the restaurant was sold and renamed the Four Seasons. The name and the cup were changed on the sign. The second photo is from 2012. For more, see this website.

More Bryan Signs:
Plaza Motel

Village Tavern
Delta, OH
Mug & Jug
Piqua, OH
Partee Shop
Van Wert, OH
Balyeat's Coffee Shop
Van Wert, OH
The Village Tavern sign is still lit at night.

The Mug & Jug featured this beer barrel sign. The bar recently became the Boomerang Pub but this sign remains.

The Partee Shop sign features a giant plastic Dr Pepper bottle.

Balyeat's Coffee Shop opened in 1922. This sign is from the late 1920s or early 1930s. I believe it is still lit at night. For more, see this website.

More Van Wert Signs:
Jerry's Old South Tavern

Mel-O-Dee Restaurant
New Carlisle, OH
Capri Lanes
Kettering, OH
The Mel-O-Dee Restaurant opened in 1965 and this sign is from then. The message board part of the sign originally read "Drive-in" and the arrow was composed of chasing bulbs.

The Capri Lanes opened in 1959 and features 36 lanes. They have a freestanding sign and a rooftop sign. I don't know if they are/were related to the Capri Lanes in Columbus or if it was just a common name. For more, see their website.

Acme Spring
Dayton, OH
Century Bar
Dayton, OH
Tasty Bird Poultry
Dayton, OH
The Acme Spring sign is probably from the 1940s or 1950s. The neon is broken although the sign itself is in great shape. For more, see this website.

The Century Bar sign is probably from the 1950s. For more, see this website.

Tasty Bird Farms is a long closed poultry store. The neon and bulbs have been removed.

More Dayton Signs:
Dayton Gym Club
Merchants National Bank & Trust Co.

Northgate Lanes [gone]
Cuyahoga Falls, OH
Acme Food [gone]
Cuyahoga Falls, OH
Frostie Drive Inn
Sabina, OH
Big Top
Restaurant [gone]
Mason, OH
The Northgate Lanessign was encased in wire mesh - probably to keep out birds and protect the neon. This photo is from 2005. By 2010, the bowling alley and the mall that it was part of was demolished. The State Road Shopping Center was built in 1953 and this sign might have been from then.

Acme Food is part of a chain but I don't believe their are any locations with a sign like this. Unfortunately, this sign was removed around 2006.

The Frostie Drive Inn has apparently been reworked and most likely had neon originally. Does anyone know the history of this place or if it has always gone by this name?

The Big Top Restaurant has been closed around 2006. The property has been for sale since then. In 2010, the sign was donated to the American Sign Museum. For more, see this website.
