The Northland Shopping Center was built in the 1950s and closed around 1990. The abandoned sign stands behind the buildings which are now vacant. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
Cain's Ballroom Dancing opened in 1924. The building may have been constructed as a garage that was never used. Numerous country music stars, 1950s rock and roll acts, as well as contemporary bands like the Sex Pistols have performed here over the years. Cain's continues to offer great musical variety. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4. This U-Haul downtown location features a revolving U-Haul truck. The truck is lit up at night. The American Cleaners sign has been repainted - leaving the top part blank. I don't know if that signals a name/ownership change or if they are not done painting. For more, see this website. |

It was restored and reinstalled in 2001. The Atlas Life Building is from 1922 and has nice details including other representations of Atlas. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.
The Mayo Building was constructed in two phases in 1910 and 1917. This vertical sign is 3 stories tall. The Ranch House Restaurant and El Rancho Grande signs may be faded and rusty but both places are still open. El Rancho Grande's sign was built in 1953. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3. |

The Bob Marshall TV & VCR Repair sign is nearly intact. Clay's Motor Co. is a used car lot. This former Tastee Freez sign is about to be renovated with the help of a Route 66 organization. The new sign will read "Mister Freez". For more, see this website. I have not seen a free-standing Tastee Freez sign before, only the rooftop variety shown at this page. |
