ATM
Stroud, OK
Rock Café
Stroud, OK
Coca-Cola
Stroud, OK
Skyliner Motel
Stroud, OK

This ATM neon sign appears to be a recent creation.

The Rock Café opened in 1939. It was constructed with rocks excavated for the construction of Route 66. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Although the building suffered a devastating fire in 2008, the rock walls survived and the owner plans to rebuild. The sign was not affected. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

The Coca-Cola wall sign was restored in 1992 by the Stroud Library Society with paint supplied by the Coca-Cola Company.

The well-preserved Skyliner Motel sign is lit at night.

Kickapoo Motel
Shawnee, OK
Diamond Shop
Ada, OK
Planet Bowl
Midwest City, OK
Lockheed
Shopping Center
Midwest City, OK

The Kickapoo Motel sign looks to be 1950s/1960s. The Kickapoo are a Native American tribe and the name of the main street in town on which this motel is located.

The Diamond Shop sign stands out on a downtown corner. The neon appears to be in good shape and might be lit at night.

Planet Bowl has been here since 1960.

The Lockheed Shopping Center sign name is a reference for the proximity of these stores to the Tinker Air Force Base.

Cock O' the Walk Walk Bar & Grill

Horn Seed has been around since 1961.

The Cock O' the Walk Bar & Grill sign once had neon tubing. For more, see this website.

The Industrial Plumbing & Heating sign features an enormous wrench.

The Sheet Metal Service Co. sign is just across the street from Industrial Plumbing. The sign was built in 1949 and features an animated hammering man.

Casa Magnolia
Oklahoma City, OK
Johnny's Lunch Box
Oklahoma City, OK
Art's TV Sales & Service
Oklahoma City, OK

I believe this abandoned sign originally advertised for a supermarket. Someone wrote to me saying that she remembers it advertising for a transmission place ("something like Atlas Transmissions"). The building, now vacant, was most recently used as a club. The faded lettering on the building and sign seem to refer to "Noa Noa". Does anyone know more about this place and sign?

Casa Magnolia is a discount store. It might have previously been "Tucker's Plumbing & Hardware" as I find references to it at this same address. For more, see this website.

Johnny's Lunch Box opened here in 1929.

The Art's TV Sales & Service sign is relatively small but quite colorful. Unfortunately, the neon tubing has been removed.

Carlyle Motel
Oklahoma City, OK
Route 66 Bowl
Oklahoma City, OK
F.A. Highley Co.
Oklahoma City, OK
Round-Up Cleaners
Oklahoma City, OK

The Carlyle Motel features this huge sign.

Just a few doors away is the Route 66 Bowl which was built around 1959. It offers 24 lanes and live music on Saturday nights. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

The F.A. Highley Co. opened here in 1946. This sign is either beautifully restored or a replacement.

The Round-Up Cleaners sign features a cowboy silhouette.

Home Savings and

Oklahoma City, OK
Shartel
Shopping Center [gone]
Oklahoma City, OK

This abandoned sign is still a well-preserved beauty.

Cash America Pawn is an Oklahoma City chain. I don't know if any of the other locations have giant signs like this. I imagine this sign must have been originally outlined with neon.

The Home Savings and Loan Association sign is complemented by the Del Rancho Restaurant sign across the street.

The 1950s Shartel Shopping Center has recently been remodeled into a CVS pharmacy and other not-yet-leased stores and I have heard that this sign is now gone. It is now known as Shartel Plaza. For more, see this website.

former Split-T Bar
Oklahoma City, OK
Beverly's Pancake Corner [moved]
Oklahoma City, OK
Arby's
Oklahoma City, OK

The Split-T Bar was a drive-in restaurant. It was demolished and replaced with a Sonic drive-in which retrofitted their sign. The "Split-T" refers to a football formation.

Beverly's Pancake Corner was originally part of an Oklahoma City chain which was founded in 1921. Of their eight locations, this is the only one left. They are the originators of "Chicken in the Rough" and pancake sandwiches. Both are still offered at the restaurant. In 2008, they moved to a different spot. They chopped off the top circular piece of the sign to take with them. Most likely, the rest of the sign will be demolished. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

There are still lots of these Arby's Roast Beef signs left nationwide. Even when the buildings are updated or replaced, many locations still retain their giant hat signs. I believe the design is from the mid-1960s. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. [photo thanks Glenda Campbell]

Western Motel
Bethany, OK
Western Motel
Sayre, OK
Cotton Boll Motel
Canute, OK

The Bethany Western Motel sign is a classic with its stonework, arrow, slanted pole and Western Hat. For more, see this website.

The Sayre Western Motel sign uses a cactus image to convey the Western theme.

The Cotton Boll Motel is gone but the sign hangs on. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

Yukon's Best Flour
Yukon, OK

The Glancy Motor Hotel was built in 1950. As of 2006, it was up for sale. For more, see this website. [photo thanks Glenda Campbell]

The Yukon's Best Flour rooftop sign is still lit at night. The mill and storage silos were built from 1900-1902 and were in use until the 1930s. The building is now used as a warehouse. For more, see this website. [photo thanks Glenda Campbell]
