Meadow Gold

The Meadow Gold sign was built around 1939. It had been dark since the 1970s. The sign was removed in 2005 and put in storage. In 2009, the sign was restored and installed near its original site. The clocks were not saved but may be replicated later. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

This Coca-Cola billboard sign is visible from Highway 64. The letters appear to be filled with modern LED tubing rather than neon tubing. Does anyone know how old this sign is?

Ehrle's Party & Carnival Supply Store opened in 1955. The pole and rooftop signs may be from then or shortly thereafter.

The Public Service Co. of Oklahoma sign was built in 1955. It was the largest electric sign in Oklahoma at the time. The sign is 336 feet long and 40 feet tall. It is lit at night with 3,249 25-watt bulbs. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

The Campbell Hotel was built in 1927. It was renovated in 2011. The lettering and neon on this sign were probably updated at that time.

Lot-A-Burger was part of a Tulsa-based chain. The first location opened in 1951. This was their second location, built in the 1950s. There are still eight Lot-A-Burgers in Tulsa and Bartlesville but this location is now independent.

The Northland Shopping Center was built in the late 1950s and closed around 1990. The abandoned sign still stands behind the buildings which are now vacant. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

The American Cleaners sign had been repainted with the top part blank when the first photo above was taken in 2006. By 2011, second photo, the sign had been adapted by the 11st Street Lofts. Does anyone know the name of the cleaners that was here originally? For more, see this website.

The Ranch House Restaurant sign is probably from the 1950s. The first photo is from 2006. The neon was removed and it was repainted around 2008. In 2009, the sign was repainted again when the name was changed to Nelson's Ranch House. The second photo is from 2011. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Nelson's Buffeteria

Nelson's Buffeteria opened in 1929. The restaurant moved in 1949 and that might be when the neon sign was built. The restaurant closed in 2004. The sign was saved by the family. The restaurant was revived at a new location in 2012. There was talk of reinstalling the sign at this location. However, when these photos were taken six months after opening, there was only this vinyl banner. The star-like sign is a holdover from the previous tenant, Betty Ann's restaurant. It looks like a C-152 Lectra but with the bulbs on the face of the arms rather than the sides.

Cain's Ballroom

Cain's Ballroom opened in 1924. Numerous country music stars, 1950s rock and roll acts, and contemporary bands have performed here over the years. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The signs are lit at night. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

The Atlas Life Building was built in 1922. This four-story tall sign was installed in 1946. The sign features a figure of Atlas holding a globe. The sign was created by Claude Neon Federal. It was taken down in 1998 after suffering wind damage. The sign was restored and reinstalled in 2001. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.

The Mayo Building was built in 1910 and expanded 1917. The building has been converted from office space to lofts. This vertical sign is three stories tall. For more, see this website.

The El Rancho Grande sign was built in 1950 and installed at the restaurant's original location. It was installed at the current location in 1953. It's not known when the arrow was added to the sign. The first photo above is from 2006; the second from 2011. The sign was completely restored in 2009. The neon is static while the bulb arrow flashes. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Moody's Jewelry opened in 1944 and this sign is from then. The is also a another sign on the side of the building. There are four other locations in Tulsa but this is the original one. For more, see their website.

The Pioneer Cleaners & Laundry sign is probably from the 1950s. It looks like the text was changed at some point. The figures are based on the Pioneer Woman statue in Ponca City, OK.

This Coney I-Lander is part of a regional chain based in Tulsa. "Coneys" are hot dogs topped with chili, cheese, onions, and mustard. The Coney I-Lander's first location, then known as "Coney Island", opened in downtown Tulsa in 1926. This East Admiral Place location was originally built as a Pizza Hut.

C & C Tile & Carpet opened in 1957. This sign is probably from then. It is no longer lit at night.

The White River Fish Market opened in 1932 and added a restaurant in 1942. This sign is probably from the 1950s. For more, see this website.

The Admiral Place Shopping Center as probably built in the 1950s.

The Bob Marshall TV & VCR Repair sign has been updated a bit. It reads "Radio" under "VCR" and "Marshall" conceals the original business name. This sign is probably from the 1950s.

The Clay's Motor Co. sign appears to be from the 1950s. The sign probably advertised for another used car dealer or business originally.

Crown Office Furnishings was established in 1955. This store was vacant when this photo was taken in 2006. The sign was later demolished.

The Desert Hills Motel opened in 1953 and this sign is probably from then. The sign was restored in 2004.

The Oasis Motel sign is probably from the mid-1960s. A postcard from 1962 shows a simpler sign.
