The Sun Valley Motel and the Cortez Motel are two stand-out signs on old Highway 20. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
The San Pedro Thrifty Pharmacy features a giant key sign. The shape and the way the lettering stops on this sign is probably an indication that this is not the original business. The Coral Motel sign is now missing one of the balls on its antennas. |

The Chinese Palace supposedly opened in 1980 but the sign looks older than that. The base of the sign looks like it might be an adapted Burger Chef. For more, see this website.
The Hawaiian Royale Motel has been here since at least the 1960s. The Barrel House liquor store was for sale when I was there in 2008. Let's hope this great sign survives the transition. This flame sign is on the roof of the El Paso Natural Gas Company building downtown. In 1996, the company moved to Houston and is now known as the El Paso Corporation. This sign looks like it was lit from the inside and might have worked like the Weather Ball in Flint, MI. |
