The Indian Trail Motel, the Winnebago Gift Shop and the Uptown Trading Post signs appear to be from the 1950s. The Uptown Trading Post opened in 1939.
Nig's Bar has been here since 1947. This sign looks like it might be from the 1960s. For more, see this website. The Evergreen Motel closed in 2006 and this sign was painted white. As of 2011, the painted-over sign still remains. For more, see this website. |

| There are two Paul Bunyan's Northwoods Cook Shanty locations. The Dells location opened in 1958 and the Minocqua opened in 1961. The Minocqua sign is 30 feet tall. The Dells sign seems to be about the same size. I don't know if either sign ever had neon. The photo on the right shows another sign at the entrance to the restaurant. It is about ten feet long. The Dells location also features a Paul Bunyan statue. For more, see their website. |

The Holiday Motel has been around since at least 1965. This sign is lit at night. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
Market Square Cheese opened here in 1969. This store also features a Giant Mouse at their entrance. Humbird Cheese is Market Square Cheese's sister store, with an identical sign. Humbird Cheese has been around since the 1930s. This sign was probably built at the same time as the one in the Dells. The Tee Pee Supper Club opened here in 1960. The female figure was once part of the sign on the side of the building. She is now installed on the roof. For more, see their website. |

The Octopus Car Wash chain was established in the late 1950s. I believe the original location was this one in Rockford, IL. Today, there are about 20 locations in AZ, CO, IL, FL, NM and WI. There are four locations in Wisconsin - each with a spinning octopus sign. The octopus mascot is nicknamed "Ozzie". For more, see this website.
The University Ave. sign shown in the top row had flags on the poles when the first photo as taken in 2006. The other photos of that location are from 2011. The front arm of the Park St. octopus curls back towards its body unlike the others which extend and hold a vacuum. |

Badger Liquor sign features an animated dripping bottle. It is probably from the 1940s or 1950s. For more, see this website.
Viking Cue Manufacturing installed these giant billiard balls at its factory showroom in the late 1970s or early 1980s. Mautz Paint was founded in 1922 and based in Madison. In 2001, the company was bought out by Sherwin-Williams. This sign is about 20 feet tall. It is located on the side of the former manufacturing building. Regent Liquor sign is probably from the 1960s. I believe it still revolves but was not working when this photo was taken in 2011. The "EAT" sign at Mr. Roberts Bar & Grill appears to be from the 1930s or 1940s. I don't know if there was another business here previously or if the sign was moved here from somewhere else. |

The Budget Bicycle Center opened in 1979. This appears to be a repurposed sign. Does anyone know what was here previously?
Lombardino's Restaurant opened in 1954 and this rooftop sign was installed then. It is lit at night. It seems this painted wall sign, or a close facsimile of it, has also been around since the restaurant opened. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. |
