Mr. Swiss is another A-frame style restaurant with a box in front (see this ad [thanks Robby Delius]). The Mr. Swiss company was based in Oklahoma City, OK. The restaurants sold soft-serve ice cream, hamburgers and other sandwiches. The chain was started in 1964 by L.J. Doerfler. By 1968, there were more than 100 stores in 38 states. Just a year later, there were 175 locations nationwide. It appears the chain fell apart sometime in the 1970s. By the late 1970s, there were hardly any locations left. However, there are still a number of surviving buildings.

This Mr. Swiss had the last original sign. Shortly before these photos were taken in 2007, the sign was damaged and only had one side left. Sometime in 2008, the other half was removed. By 2010, the location was vacant. The large peaked roof in front of the A-frame is an addition. For more, see this website.

This former Mr. Swiss has been renamed Buffalo Burger. The sign still uses the original V-shaped pole and has similar Swiss-looking lettering.

Fat Mo's was established in 1991 and has 18 locations in the Nashville area. As far as I know, this is the only one that occupies a former Mr. Swiss building. They have one in Nashville in a former Central Park restaurant.

This former Mr. Swiss was morphed into a Dairy Queen at some point with a split-roof addition to the front of the building. The drive-in canopy was added later when the business became a "Jr. Varsity Root Beer" (hence, the "V" sign in the top photo). That lasted about ten years. After that, the building housed a pizzeria and then "Maria's Mexican". In 2006, when the top photo was taken, the building was being fixed-up for another fast food operation. The "Old A Drive-in Diner" has been here since around 2010. The bottom row of photos is from 2011. It's possible that the "V" sign or its frame was flipped upside down and adapted for the "A" that is on the building now.
